Apex Housing Association (Apex) is currently seeking new voluntary board members to play a vital role in governing and leading the work of the association, which has responsibility for managing around 7,000 homes across Northern Ireland.
Apex provides and maintains high-quality homes and provides support to around 17,000 tenants and residents in a variety of settings. As a registered housing association and not-for-profit organisation, Apex works to social enterprise principles, employs over 650 staff and is led by a voluntary Board.
We provide general needs housing for families and single people; purpose-built accommodation for older people and families with complex needs; supported housing for people with mental ill health, learning disabilities, alcohol/drug addictions, young people in need of support and older people; and housing support for vulnerable groups under the Supporting People programme. We also provide a range of services and support for tenants and the wider community through our community investment programme.
Apex’s turnover is currently £64m per annum. We manage around 7,000 homes and have a significant pipeline of new developments.

The role of board member:
- We are seeking forward-thinking board members who share our values and can help us deliver our vision.
- The role is voluntary, however all out-of-pocket expenses whilst undertaking the role will be reimbursed.
- The Board normally meets up to 6 times per year, in person in Derry~Londonderry or by joining remotely.
- You will also be required to participate in one or more committees of the Board and attend training and events.
- The average time commitment is therefore approximately 10 days per year.
Are you the right fit?
We are seeking applications from those with knowledge and experience at a senior level. In particular, we are seeking applicants who can demonstrate particular skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Health and social care
- Maintenance and building construction
- ICT
Experience in the public, private, community or voluntary sectors and knowledge of good governance is desirable.
