The RUC GC Foundation has many varied roles including documenting the history of policing, maintaining the RUC Memorial Garden at Brooklyn, Belfast, and making a positive contribution to the professional development of police officers and policing through a bursary scheme for serving police officers in Northern Ireland. The Foundation, working with the community, also delivers outreach and educational initiatives.

The Chairperson time commitment normally amounts to at least five days per month, at the Foundation’s office. The Chairperson will be the primary representative of the Foundation at external events outside of normal working hours. As Accounting Officer, the Chairperson must ensure that the Foundation fulfils its aims, statutory functions and objectives, set by the Department of Justice, while ensuring the efficient, effective and economic use of resources. The Chairperson is not remunerated. The Foundation may pay the Chairperson expenses it considers appropriate, following the approval of the Department of Justice.

The Trustees’ time commitment normally amounts to a minimum of four days per month for Foundation business. In addition, Trustees will be required to perform a representative role on behalf of the Foundation at a variety of events. Trustees are not remunerated. The Foundation may pay to Trustees expenses it considers appropriate, following the approval of the Department of Justice.

Appointment will be made on merit from those individuals who best satisfy the essential criteria.
