Here at Strength Restored, we believe in engaging with young people, and we want this to permeate right through to our governance. This is why we are setting up our Board of Junior Trustees. Though these Junior Trustees will not have the legal standing of the actual board of trustees, we want them to feel as much part of the governing body as possible — and will have input and say in how Strength Restored is run.

A Junior Trustee must be aged between 11-16, and at the age of 17, have the option — if available — of becoming a young trustee, which is a legal member of the board of trustees.

A Junior Trustee must:

  • ensure your charity is carrying out its purposes for the public benefit
  • comply with your charity’s governing document and the law
  • act in your charity’s best interests
  • manage your charity’s resources responsibly
  • act with reasonable care and skill
  • ensure your charity is accountable

We will work with our Junior Trustees to equip them with the skills to analyse a situation and develop problem-solving skills. A young person's opinion matters to us as much — if not more — in terms of understanding bullying than an adult's.

A Junior Trustee will be able to gain experience of:

  • Observing and contributing to management meetings
  • Organising and fronting public events
  • Public speaking
  • Event management
  • and far more.

A Junior Trustee must be:

  • Trustworthy
  • Respectful
  • Determined
  • Passionate
  • Caring
  • Thoughtful
  • Imaginative
  • Inquiring
