We are looking to widen our pool of freelance Music Directors for our weekly Manchester sessions hosted by Factory International at Aviva Studios.

Music Directors are responsible for leading weekly sessions with Streetwise Opera performers exploring the music and stories of the current project; co-creating new work alongside a composer or reimagining an historic opera.

Working closely with the Artistic Director, Music Directors shape and deliver high-quality music and theatre experiences that align with Streetwise Opera's artistic vision and values, and centre co-creation with performers in each session.

They facilitate inclusive and engaging singing and opera-making activities, develop repertoire, support performance preparation, collaborate with artists from a range of disciplines and adapt their approach to meet the diverse needs of participants.

Music Directors create a welcoming and collaborative environment, encouraging participation, artistic excellence, and personal growth, while contributing to the wider creative life of the organisation.

  • Tell us about your relevant experience as a Music Director, vocal leader or music facilitator, and how this has prepared you to lead inclusive, artistically ambitious opera sessions with Streetwise Opera performers. (Max. 400 words)
  • How would you create a welcoming and collaborative session in which performers with different levels of experience and confidence can develop their singing, creativity and opera performance skills? (Max. 400 words)

Streetwise Opera session fees are £150 for a two-hour session and £175 for a three-hour session (which includes planning time).

Meeting fees are paid at an hourly rate of £25 / hour.
