This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start a long-term career in accountancy through a structured training and development programme. You will be joining a small, vibrant and friendly office team, where teamwork, learning and support are at the heart of what we do. The successful candidate will begin their professional studies through the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification, with full support provided to progress through AAT Levels 2, 3 and 4, depending on their current qualifications and experience. Upon successful completion of AAT, there will be opportunities to continue studying towards further professional qualifications such as ACA. This role is ideal for a school or college leaver who is keen to learn from the ground up and is committed to building a successful career in accountancy. Working alongside experienced accounting professionals, you will gain practical experience across accounts, tax and business advisory services whilst developing your technical knowledge through professional study. We are looking for someone who is motivated, committed and excited to begin their career in accountancy. Some elements of the training programme will be based at other locations, so applicants must be willing to travel as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entering client information onto accounting software and internal systems
  • Preparing working papers to support financial statements
  • Preparing fixed asset registers
  • Preparing schedules of debtors, creditors, prepayments and accruals
  • Assisting with VAT reconciliations and VAT return preparation
  • Preparing bank reconciliations
  • Posting accounting transactions and journals
  • Assisting with the preparation of statutory accounts
  • Assisting with the preparation of Personal Tax Returns
  • Assisting with the preparation of Corporation Tax Returns
  • Filing tax returns and statutory documents online
  • Supporting senior team members with client queries and administrative tasks

Full training and support will be provided in all areas.

What We Are Looking For

  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in accountancy
  • A strong willingness to learn and develop professionally
  • Good numerical skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team
  • A proactive and organised approach to work
  • Basic IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Good educational attainment, including GCSE English and Maths at Grade 5 (or equivalent) or above

The following would be advantageous, but not essential:

  • A-Levels, T-Levels, BTEC qualifications or equivalent
  • Strong results in subjects such as Mathematics, Business, Economics or Accounting
  • Completion of, or progress towards, AAT Level 2
  • Willingness to travel for training when required
