To support the Tax team based in Stevenage by delivering high-quality compliance services to a portfolio of individual clients. The role involves assisting with preparation of tax returns, maintaining client records, and developing technical knowledge within UK personal taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of self-assessment tax returns for individuals, including sole traders, company directors, partnerships, landlords, and investment clients.
- Gather and review client information, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Input financial data into tax software and reconcile to supporting documentation.
- Calculate basic tax liabilities.
- Monitor deadlines and assist in ensuring compliance with HMRC filing requirements.
- Prepare correspondence to clients and HMRC.
- Support the tax team with ad hoc administrative and technical tasks.
- Maintain up-to-date and organised client files (electronic and paper where applicable).
- Liaise with clients to request information and resolve routine queries.
- Keep up to date with changes in UK tax legislation through training and self-study.
- Assist with MTD compliance.
- Request information for and prepare P11ds.
- Preparation of sole trade accounts.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Basic understanding of UK personal tax principles (through study or experience).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel and Outlook).
- Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a tax or accountancy practice (placement or junior role).
- Familiarity with tax software (e.g. IRIS, CCH, TaxCalc or similar).
- Studying towards ATT.
