Job Purpose

To manage a portfolio of accountancy clients, with a strong focus on the bloodstock and racing sectors, delivering high-quality service and financial insight. This role combines technical expertise with a passion for the equine world, supporting clients ranging from stud farms and syndicates to racing yards and rural enterprises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients, including racehorse trainers, breeders, and equestrian businesses, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and tax returns.
  • Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies, including those operating in racing, breeding, and equine services.
  • Attend client meetings, often on-site at stud farms, training yards, or racecourses, to build strong relationships and provide tailored financial advice.
  • Oversee and mentor junior team members, reviewing work and supporting their development.
  • Prepare and review VAT returns, tax computations, and advisory schedules, with a focus on agricultural and equine tax planning.

Skills & Qualifications

  • ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience in general practice, ideally with exposure to rural, agricultural, or equine clients, or a strong interest in this area
  • Up to date working knowledge of VAT
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with clients from the racing and bloodstock community
  • Strong IT skills, including cloud accounting platforms (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks)
  • Ability to travel to client premises, including racecourses, studs, and rural locations
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • A genuine interest in the horse racing and bloodstock industry is highly desirable
