Streamline Recruitment are currently recruiting for an experienced Import / Customs Operator to join a small, friendly and well‑established freight forwarding team in Stanford Le Hope. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong customs clearance and import forwarding experience who enjoys a varied role. Working as part of a close‑knit team, you will be involved in all aspects of the operation, supporting different departments and gaining exposure to a wide range of freight forwarding activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete import customs clearances for road, sea and air freight shipments.
- Accurately process customs entries using CDS, ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Manage import shipments from booking through to final delivery.
- Liaise with customers, overseas agents, hauliers, shipping lines and airlines to ensure the smooth movement of cargo.
- Arrange and coordinate road, sea and air freight shipments, with a particular focus on imports from the USA, China and India.
- Ensure all customs and shipping documentation is completed accurately and within required timescales.
- Handle CNS, Destin8, ORP and IRP procedures as part of daily operations.
- Monitor shipment progress and proactively resolve any delays or issues.
- Provide customers with regular shipment updates and a high level of service.
- Calculate and process duties, taxes and associated charges where required.
- Ensure compliance with customs legislation and company procedures at all times.
- Support colleagues across the wider forwarding operation and assist in other areas of the business when required.
Requirements
- Previous experience within freight forwarding and import customs operations.
- Strong understanding of import customs clearance procedures for road and sea freight.
- Fully conversant with CDS, CNS, Destin8, ORP and IRP procedures.
- Good knowledge of import freight forwarding processes across road, sea and air freight.
- Experience handling shipments from the USA, China and India would be advantageous.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Multifreight experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
