About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Point Cloud Surveyor to join our growing Digital Construction team. This role is integral to the successful delivery of projects by capturing accurate site conditions through laser scanning technology, processing point cloud data and supporting BIM coordination.
Working closely with Digital Engineers, BIM Coordinators and project delivery teams, you will undertake site surveys, process point cloud data and produce detailed comparison reports between the digital model and site installation. Your work will help identify installation deviations, improve coordination and contribute to the production of accurate as-built models. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in reality capture, laser scanning and digital construction who is looking to work on a wide range of M&E projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Site Capture
- Attend construction sites to carry out laser scanning surveys using reality capture equipment.
- Set up and operate laser scanning equipment throughout the day to accurately capture existing site conditions.
- Plan scan locations to ensure complete coverage of the project area.
- Capture multiple scan positions across each floor, with larger or more complex projects requiring up to 300 individual scans.
- Carry out repeat site visits where necessary to complete survey requirements.
- Ensure all survey data is captured accurately and safely in accordance with project requirements.
- Maintain and care for survey equipment, ensuring it remains calibrated and operational.
- Point Cloud Processing
- Process captured laser scan data using FARO SCENE software.
- Register and combine individual scans into a fully coordinated point cloud.
- Validate scan accuracy and resolve any registration issues.
- Extract project coordinates from the BIM model and apply them to the point cloud to ensure accurate alignment.
- Prepare and issue completed point cloud files for use by the Digital Construction and BIM teams.
- Maintain accurate records of survey data and processed files.
- Site vs Model Comparison
- Compare point cloud surveys against Autodesk Revit models to verify installation accuracy.
- Identify deviations between installed works and the coordinated design model.
- Produce clear comparison reports highlighting any areas requiring further investigation or corrective action.
- Work collaboratively with BIM Coordinators, Digital Engineers and project teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Support quality assurance processes throughout project delivery.
- Assist in the production of accurate as-built information through ongoing verification surveys.
Software Requirements
Applicants should have experience using:
- Autodesk ReCap
- FARO SCENE
- Autodesk Revit
- Revizto 5
Experience with Navisworks, AutoCAD or other BIM software would be advantageous.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience carrying out point cloud or laser scanning surveys within the construction industry.
- Experience processing and registering point cloud data.
- Good understanding of BIM workflows and digital construction processes.
- Ability to compare point cloud data against digital models and identify installation deviations.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on construction sites as well as part of a wider project team.
- Good communication skills with the confidence to liaise with site teams and design teams.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within an M&E Building Services environment.
- Knowledge of BIM standards and digital construction processes.
- Experience producing verification reports and supporting as-built model production.
- Familiarity with laser scanning hardware such as FARO Focus or Leica RTC360.
