Salary: £35,000-£45,000 depending on experience
Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-18:00, on site
Weekend: Remote on-call approximately 1 weekend in every 6-8 weeks
We are recruiting for an established container haulage and transport company looking for a Transport Controller to join their operations team.
This is a hands‑on transport operations role, working with drivers, planners and the fleet team to keep the daily operation running smoothly. You will be involved in planning and allocating work, monitoring vehicles and drivers, dealing with delays and helping to keep the operation efficient and cost‑effective.
The Role - Transport Controller
- Plan and allocate daily work across a fleet of vehicles.
- Route vehicles and ensure work is planned efficiently.
- Monitor jobs throughout the day and deal with delays or operational issues.
- Expedite work where required.
- Manage vehicle and driver utilisation.
- Monitor drivers' hours, workloads, overtime and nights out.
- Make VBS bookings and help control transport costs.
- Liaise with drivers throughout the day and resolve operational issues.
- Work closely with the Fleet Team to ensure vehicles and equipment are available.
- Complete daily and weekly transport administration.
- Monitor routing and identify areas where efficiency can be improved.
- Escalate any ongoing service, cost or operational issues.
What We're Looking For - Port Operator
- Previous experience in container haulage, port transport or UK transport operations.
- Good understanding of container movements and UK port operations.
- Experience planning or coordinating vehicles and drivers.
- Knowledge of VBS bookings and port procedures.
- Understanding of drivers' hours and transport compliance.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Able to work well under pressure and manage a busy workload.
- Previous experience supervising a transport team would be an advantage, but is not essential.
