Our client is seeking a highly organised, experienced, and customer-focused Freight Forwarder, who will then train to become a Multimodal Freight Forwarder, to join their expanding forwarding team. The primary focus of this role is sea freight import and export operations, with opportunities to gain experience in air and road freight as part of your ongoing training and development into a fully multimodal operator. In addition to operational responsibilities, the role includes commercial activities, such as outbound customer calls, to support and develop the company's multimodal services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage sea freight import and export files from quotation to final delivery
- Support airfreight and road freight bookings (training provided)
- Liaise effectively with customers, overseas agents, suppliers, and internal teams
- Arrange customs clearance, documentation, and delivery bookings
- Resolve operational issues promptly and professionally
- Ensure accurate costing, invoicing, and file maintenance
- Monitor customer and supplier credit limits in line with company policy
- Undertake additional tasks as requested by your line manager
Commercial:
- Conduct outbound consultative calls to existing and prospective customers
- Build and maintain strong, long-term customer relationships
- Follow up on leads, quotations, and business opportunities
- Understand customer requirements and recommend suitable freight solutions
- Identify opportunities to support the wider commercial strategy
- Work closely with sales and operations teams to deliver seamless customer service
Note: These calls are consultative rather than high-pressure. The goal is to add value, understand customer needs, and help grow multimodal services through consistent, professional outreach.
Position Requirements
- Minimum 2 years' experience in sea freight operations
- Strong understanding of international forwarding processes
- Experience with customs clearance procedures
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Proactive problem-solver with a positive, can-do approach
- Experience in airfreight or road freight is desirable but not essential (training provided)
Position Remuneration
- Competitive salary: Β£34,000 - Β£36,000 (dependent on experience)
