Our client is a well-established specialist groundwork contractor based in Berkshire, delivering a comprehensive range of services including groundworks, reinforced concrete structures, basements, drainage, and civil engineering solutions across commercial and residential projects. Due to continued growth, our client is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing commercial and cost control activities across groundwork projects, ensuring they are delivered efficiently, profitably, and within budget.
Position Remuneration
- £70,000 - £80,000 (depending on experience)
- Office-based position
- Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 16:30
- 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays
- Company pension scheme

Position Overview
- Manage all commercial aspects of the project lifecycle from inception through to final account
- Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts and subcontracts to ensure robust commercial agreements
- Monitor project costs, budgets, and forecasts to ensure financial control and profitability
- Identify, assess, and manage risks, opportunities, and variations throughout project delivery
- Lead on valuations, applications for payment, and agreement of final accounts
- Provide commercial advice and support to the wider project team
- Liaise effectively with clients, stakeholders, and supply chain partners
Position Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (or equivalent experience)
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within groundworks or civil engineering
- Strong understanding of construction commercial management, contracts, and cost control
- Experience managing valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
- Knowledge of subcontract procurement and negotiation
- Ability to monitor costs, budgets, and financial forecasts accurately
- Experience identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Confident communicator, able to liaise with clients, site teams, and supply chain partners
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Proficient in MS Office and relevant commercial/QS systems
