An established and growing transport and logistics business is seeking an experienced Transport / Depot Manager to take full operational responsibility for a busy depot based in Leigh, near Wigan. This is a senior, hands-on management role with accountability for day-to-day depot operations, compliance, staff leadership, performance management, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational efficiency, service delivery, and sustainable, profitable growth at site level.

The Role

  • Overall management and upkeep of a busy transport depot
  • Leading, motivating, and developing a small operational team
  • Driving depot performance against KPIs and service level agreements
  • Implementing operational improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability
  • Ensuring full compliance with all transport legislation and regulatory requirements, including:
  • Drivers' hours
  • Tachograph regulations
  • Vehicle maintenance schedules and records
  • Operator Licence compliance
  • Protecting and auditing systems to safeguard the company's Operator's Licence
  • Managing and monitoring budgets and operational costs
  • Analysing operational and financial data to identify efficiencies (MPG, dead mileage, damage reduction, etc.)
  • Planning and coordinating training and development for operational staff
  • Liaising with internal stakeholders, customers, and external partners
  • Ensuring health & safety and site housekeeping standards are consistently met
  • Providing regular performance updates and feedback to senior leadership / ownership
  • Candidate Requirements

    • Proven experience in a Transport Manager / Depot Manager / Operations Manager role within transport or logistics
    • Strong working knowledge of transport compliance and legislation
    • Experience managing budgets and operational performance
    • Commercially minded with strong business acumen
    • Confident leader with the ability to motivate, develop, and performance-manage staff
    • Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
    • Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
    • CPC holder preferred but not essential
    • Comfortable analysing and reporting on operational and financial data

    Package & Benefits

    • Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE)
    • Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 18:00
    • Holiday: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays
