An established and growing transport and logistics business is seeking an experienced Transport / Depot Manager to take full operational responsibility for a busy depot based in Leigh, near Wigan. This is a senior, hands-on management role with accountability for day-to-day depot operations, compliance, staff leadership, performance management, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving operational efficiency, service delivery, and sustainable, profitable growth at site level.
The Role
- Overall management and upkeep of a busy transport depot
- Leading, motivating, and developing a small operational team
- Driving depot performance against KPIs and service level agreements
- Implementing operational improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability
- Ensuring full compliance with all transport legislation and regulatory requirements, including:
- Drivers' hours
- Tachograph regulations
- Vehicle maintenance schedules and records
- Operator Licence compliance
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience in a Transport Manager / Depot Manager / Operations Manager role within transport or logistics
- Strong working knowledge of transport compliance and legislation
- Experience managing budgets and operational performance
- Commercially minded with strong business acumen
- Confident leader with the ability to motivate, develop, and performance-manage staff
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and able to make sound decisions under pressure
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
- CPC holder preferred but not essential
- Comfortable analysing and reporting on operational and financial data
Package & Benefits
- Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (DOE)
- Hours: Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 18:00
- Holiday: 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Pay: Monthly
