An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Designer to join a busy bespoke joinery and furniture manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate manufacturing drawings, technical documentation and 3D models for bespoke joinery and furniture projects. The role supports the successful delivery of projects from concept through to manufacture, translating design intent into practical, buildable solutions that meet client requirements, manufacturing capabilities and quality standards.

Working closely with Estimating, Project Management, CNC Programming and Manufacturing teams, you will develop detailed production information using SolidWorks/CAD, ensuring drawings are suitable for workshop manufacture and CNC production. The role requires a strong understanding of bespoke joinery construction, furniture manufacturing methods, materials and production processes, together with a high level of technical accuracy and attention to detail.

Key Objectives

  • Produce accurate manufacturing drawings, workshop drawings and production documentation using SolidWorks.
  • Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies that accurately reflect manufacturing requirements.
  • Ensure all technical information is complete, accurate and suitable for workshop manufacture and CNC programming.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, interior design packages and client specifications to develop practical manufacturing solutions.
  • Support projects through all stages of the design and manufacturing process, ensuring technical accuracy and buildability.
  • Collaborate effectively with Estimating, Project Management, CNC Programming and Manufacturing teams.
  • Maintain drawing standards, revision control and document management procedures.
  • Identify and resolve technical design issues while maintaining design intent and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in design processes, standardisation and manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, workshop drawings and production information using SolidWorks.
  • Create accurate 3D models, assemblies and technical details for bespoke furniture and joinery projects.
  • Generate cutting lists, machining information and production documentation for manufacture.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, interior design packages, client specifications and site information.
  • Develop practical construction details and manufacturing solutions that align with workshop capabilities.
  • Liaise with Estimators, Project Managers, CNC Programmers, Factory Managers and Bench Joiners throughout project delivery.
  • Support design reviews, technical discussions and problem-solving activities.
  • Ensure drawings comply with drawing standards, revision procedures and document control requirements.
  • Assist with design amendments and technical queries throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and drawing records.
  • Contribute to the continuous development of design standards, workflows and manufacturing efficiencies.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong understanding of bespoke joinery construction methods and furniture manufacturing processes.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and workshop production methods.
  • Professional experience using SolidWorks to produce manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to produce accurate workshop drawings and production information suitable for manufacture and CNC processing.
  • Good knowledge of woodworking materials including MDF, MFC, plywood, veneered boards, laminates and solid timber.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, interior design packages and technical specifications.
  • Experience managing drawing revisions and technical documentation.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience within the bespoke joinery, cabinet-making or furniture manufacturing industry.
