A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Bespoke Joinery Designer / CAD Designer to join a well-established and growing bespoke joinery manufacturing business. The company specialises in the manufacture of high-quality bespoke joinery and furniture for residential and commercial projects, and is looking for an experienced technical designer with a strong understanding of joinery and furniture manufacturing.

You will be responsible for producing accurate manufacturing drawings, workshop drawings, technical documentation and 3D models, translating design concepts into practical and buildable solutions ready for manufacture. Working closely with Estimating, Project Management, CNC Programming and Manufacturing teams, you will take projects from design through to production, ensuring technical information is accurate, complete and suitable for both workshop manufacture and CNC processing. This role would suit a technically strong designer who understands not just how to design bespoke joinery, but how it is actually built and manufactured.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed manufacturing and workshop drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Create accurate 3D models, assemblies and technical details for bespoke joinery and furniture projects.
  • Develop production information, cutting lists and machining information for manufacture.
  • Interpret architectural drawings, interior design packages, client specifications and site information.
  • Translate design intent into practical, buildable manufacturing solutions.
  • Ensure drawings and technical information are suitable for workshop manufacture and CNC production.
  • Liaise closely with Estimators, Project Managers, CNC Programmers and Manufacturing teams throughout project delivery.
  • Work with factory and workshop teams to resolve technical and manufacturing issues.
  • Support design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Assist with design amendments and technical queries throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and drawing records.
  • Manage drawing revisions and ensure correct document control procedures are followed.
  • Ensure all technical information meets required drawing and quality standards.
  • Identify potential manufacturing issues before production and develop practical solutions.
  • Contribute to improving design standards, processes and manufacturing efficiencies.

About You

  • Minimum 3 years' experience within bespoke joinery, cabinet making, furniture manufacturing or a similar environment.
  • Strong experience using SolidWorks to produce manufacturing drawings and technical documentation.
  • A strong understanding of bespoke joinery construction and furniture manufacturing methods.
  • Experience producing accurate workshop drawings and production information.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and workshop capabilities.
  • Knowledge of woodworking materials including MDF, MFC, plywood, veneered boards, laminates and solid timber.
  • Ability to interpret architectural drawings, interior design packages and technical specifications.
  • Strong technical and spatial awareness.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a practical approach to design.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work to programme deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both office-based and workshop teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a wider multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience using SWOOD.
  • Knowledge of CNC programming and machining processes.
  • Experience working with HOMAG manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience designing bespoke kitchens, wardrobes, fitted furniture, media units or commercial joinery.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SketchUp or SmartWOP.
  • Previous Bench Joinery or workshop manufacturing experience.
  • Project management experience within a bespoke joinery environment.
