An established, international logistics company is seeking an experienced Customs Coordinator to join their UK team. In this role, you will oversee the customs clearance process for import shipments, ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations and international trade laws. You will work closely with freight forwarders, carriers, and internal departments to ensure all documentation is accurate and shipments are processed efficiently and on time. Position Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of the customs clearance process for import shipments.
- Prepare and submit customs entries via CDS, ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations.
- Verify and classify goods using correct tariff codes and ensure accurate product descriptions.
- Liaise with carriers, freight forwarders, and clients to ensure timely and compliant clearance.
- Ensure all required documentation—commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and certificates of origin—is accurate and complete.
- Communicate with customers and internal teams regarding clearance status, delivery schedules, and any arising issues.
- Monitor customs duty, VAT payments, and post-entry corrections where required.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of UK and international customs regulations, including IPR/OPR, CFSP, and other relevant procedures.
- Assist with audits, compliance checks, and reporting related to customs activities.
- Collaborate closely with warehouse, transport, and finance teams to ensure seamless cargo movement and documentation flow.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in customs coordination, import operations, or freight forwarding.
- Solid understanding of customs procedures, tariff classifications, and import documentation.
- Experience using CDS, CHIEF, or other customs entry systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and logistics management software.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of bonded warehousing, IPR/OPR, and international trade regulations highly desirable.
- Experience in liaising with HMRC and other government bodies advantageous.
Position Remuneration:
- Salary: £30,000 - £35,000
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 to 17:30 (plus occasional weekend availability)
- 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)
