Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 - 17:00 (with occasional weekend on-call)

The Company

Our client is a small, well-established general haulage business operating a fleet of 8 trucks. Due to continued growth, we are looking to recruit an experienced and hands-on Transport Planner to take full ownership of the day-to-day planning and coordination of our operation. This is a standalone role, offering full autonomy and responsibility for planning and managing the fleet.

The Role

As Transport Planner, you will be responsible for planning and coordinating the fleet, primarily working ahead (planning the following week), while reacting to any day-to-day issues that arise. You will work independently in the office and occasionally visit the yard to liaise with drivers and operations.

  • Plan and schedule work for a fleet of 8 trucks (general haulage)
  • Forward planning of routes and loads, typically a week in advance
  • React to and resolve any operational issues or changes as they arise
  • Liaise with drivers and occasionally attend the yard
  • Ensure compliance with drivers' hours and tachograph regulations
  • Use Excel spreadsheets for planning, tracking and reporting
  • Use systems such as Tachomaster and Transporter (or similar)
  • Maintain efficient, cost-effective and compliant transport operations
  • Provide occasional weekend on-call support when required

About You

  • Proven experience as a Transport Planner (ideally in general haulage)
  • Strong working knowledge of drivers' hours and transport compliance
  • Confident using Excel for planning and scheduling
  • Experience using Tachomaster and transport planning systems
  • Organised, proactive and able to work independently
  • Comfortable working in a standalone role with full responsibility
  • Practical, hands-on and solutions-focused
