Our client is a long-established UK construction company specialising in high-performance construction, fit-out, and refurbishment projects across the healthcare, industrial, retail, and education sectors. The business offers a full turnkey service, including bespoke joinery manufacturing, design and build solutions, and specialist medical fit-outs tailored to each client's requirements. Due to company growth, they are looking to take on a project quantity surveyor. In this role you'll be responsible for delivering end-to-end commercial management across construction projects, including cost planning, tender submissions, contract administration, procurement, and budget control. You will provide strategic cost advice, manage change processes, mitigate financial risks, and build strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to support successful project delivery.
Position Duties
- Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost plans, providing expert commercial advice to minimise scope changes and budget overruns.
- Deliver end-to-end commercial management across projects, ensuring effective cost control from pre-construction through to final account.
- Produce detailed Bills of Quantities (BoQs), measurements, and take-offs from technical drawings and specifications.
- Lead tender submissions, including pricing, bid analysis, value engineering, and the development of competitive winning strategies.
- Manage change control processes, ensuring variations are accurately valued, negotiated, approved, and recorded.
- Administer contract documentation and monitor contractual obligations to ensure compliance by all project stakeholders.
- Provide strategic commercial and cost advice to support informed project and business decision-making.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams.
- Monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts, proactively identifying and mitigating commercial risks.
- Conduct regular nationwide site visits to assess project progress, verify works, and support commercial decision-making.
- Promote and uphold a strong health and safety culture, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure adherence to internal systems, procedures, and reporting requirements.
- Support the procurement, evaluation, and appointment of subcontractors and suppliers to secure best value and project performance.
Position Requirements
- The right candidate will hold a relevant Quantity Surveying Qualification or equivalent RICS qualification or association is preferred but not essential.
- Experience with fit-out or commercial refurbishment projects.
- Strong analytical skills, numeracy skills, diary management, and organisational skills.
- In-depth knowledge in procurement, tendering, and contract strategy.
- High level of commercial awareness and understanding of value engineering.
- Clear, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with a range of clients and colleagues at all levels.
- Proven track record in managing effectively through the whole project lifecycle, from inception through to final account.
Position Remuneration
- Salary up to £60,000 plus a yearly performance-based bonus.
- Car allowance provided to ensure the travel required by the role can be undertaken.
- Regular working hours, Monday to Friday.
