Our client is a well-established and highly respected structural steel fabrication and construction business, supplying and erecting fabricated steelwork across the UK and Ireland. Due to continued expansion, they are seeking an Engineer with an Electrical/Mechanical Bias to join their busy Workshop team.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join a growing and ambitious business, working closely with the Maintenance Manager to support the safe and efficient operation of machinery and plant equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for fault finding, repairs, preventative maintenance and fabrication, playing an important role in supporting the smooth running of the Workshop.

Position Remuneration

£40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience
Monday to Friday, full-time, workshop-based

Position Overview

  • Fault find and repair breakdowns on machinery and plant equipment, including drills, blasters, saws, conveyors, welding units and overhead cranes.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance including cleaning, lubricating and adjusting equipment in line with the maintenance plan.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including inspection reports, repair logs and equipment performance data.
  • Carry out safety checks and risk assessments and implement appropriate safety measures.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed in line with relevant regulations, codes and industry best practices.
  • Ensure safe systems of work are adhered to during all maintenance works, including COSHH assessments.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to coordinate maintenance activities and resolve complex issues.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding maintenance plans, updates and any concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance, energy efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Fabricate and fit parts as required for repairs and maintenance to plant equipment.
  • Make and assemble fabricated parts into complete units, ensuring correct alignment and functionality.
  • Report any issues to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Lead by example and promote safe working practices, following procedures and wearing the correct PPE / RPE as required.

Position Requirements

  • Recognised trade apprenticeship or relevant Engineering qualification and experience.
  • Previous experience within an Engineering or Maintenance environment.
  • Experience with Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Welding, Turning and Electrical systems would be beneficial.
  • Experience with Overhead Cranes and IPAF would be advantageous.
  • Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Conscientious, hardworking, flexible and safety aware.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Proactive approach with a willingness to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Previous experience within a structural steel or construction environment would be advantageous.
