We are representing a respected and growing civil engineering contractor in their search for an experienced and proactive Bid Manager. This is a key role within the business, responsible for leading and managing the entire bid process from start to finish - including hands-on bid writing, coordinating technical inputs, and ensuring timely, high-quality submissions.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure projects, be comfortable writing persuasive content, and excel at driving deadlines across internal and external stakeholders.

Package:

  • £65K - £75K
  • 28 days holiday inc. BH
  • Company pension
  • Life insurance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the full bid lifecycle, from initial opportunity qualification through to submission and post-bid feedback.
  • Write and edit high-quality, compelling bid content, tailoring responses to client requirements and evaluation criteria.
  • Coordinate inputs from technical teams, planners, estimators, and commercial departments to ensure cohesive and compliant submissions.
  • Develop win themes and value propositions that clearly articulate the client's strengths and differentiators.
  • Manage bid schedules and ensure all deliverables are submitted on time and to a professional standard.
  • Conduct tender briefings, review meetings, and post-submission evaluations.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to identify pipeline opportunities and bidding strategies.
  • Maintain a library of standard responses and project case studies to support future bids.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Bid Manager or Senior Bid Writer within the civil engineering or construction sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and manage bids independently - this is a hands-on role, not purely coordination.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure tendering processes and frameworks (e.g. highways, utilities, rail, general civils).
  • Excellent written English with an eye for detail, structure, and persuasive language.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines under pressure.
  • Familiarity with NEC, JCT or similar contract forms is advantageous.
  • APMP or other relevant bid management qualifications.
  • Graphic/layout awareness (Adobe InDesign, Canva, etc.) for bid presentation (desirable but not essential).
