At StreamAMG, we power some of the world’s biggest sports, media and betting brands to deliver live and on-demand video at scale. Every year, we deliver more than 15,000 live events globally — moments that matter to fans, clients and partners alike. Behind every flawless stream is a technical operation that performs under pressure, solves problems in real time, and ensures world-class delivery from ingest to playback.
The opportunity
We’re looking for a Director of Technical Operations to act as the technical heartbeat of our live streaming operation and to play a key role as part of the Senior Leadership Team. This is a unique hybrid role combining deep technical expertise (70%) with leadership and mentorship (30%). You’ll own the technical integrity of our global broadcasts while supporting and developing our Operational Leads. This isn’t a purely strategic leadership role. It’s hands-on, high-impact, and central to how we deliver live sport at scale. You’ll be the person the team turns to when challenges are complex, stakes are high, and clarity is critical.
Why this role matters
Technical Operations sits at the core of everything we deliver. You’ll operate at the intersection of:
- live streaming technology and infrastructure
- team leadership and technical development
From major global sporting events to high-value rights delivery, your expertise will ensure our platform remains resilient, secure and best-in-class. If you thrive on solving complex problems, influencing technical direction, and supporting teams in high-pressure environments, this role offers real ownership and impact.
How you’ll make an impact
Streaming Technology Excellence (70%)
- Act as the final escalation point for complex incidents across AWS Media Services and Akamai
- Provide architectural oversight, validating end-to-end (“glass-to-glass”) workflows
- Design and oversee stream protection strategies, including tokenisation, DRM and geo-blocking
- Continuously optimise encoding profiles and CDN configurations to balance cost, latency and quality
- Drive technical excellence across live sports streaming, ensuring reliability at scale
- Mentor and support Operational Leads, building confidence and capability
- Lead incident debriefs, turning issues into learning and improvement opportunities
- Bridge the gap between Solutions Architecture and Operations, ensuring knowledge flows effectively
- Champion best practice and continuous improvement across the team
Who you are
You’re an experienced streaming specialist who has evolved into a technical leader — someone who combines deep expertise with the ability to guide and develop others. You’ll bring:
- Senior-level expertise in AWS Media Services (MediaLive, MediaPackage), Akamai CDN, CaptionHub and G-Mana
- Strong knowledge of streaming protocols including SRT, HLS and DASH, and live sports encoding (e.g. 50p, low latency)
- Proven experience handling complex, high-scale incidents with a calm, methodical approach
- The ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance
- Demonstrable leadership experience, with a passion for mentoring and developing teams
- A mindset focused on quality, resilience and continuous optimisation
What we offer
