The Company: Stream is on a mission to bring better financial wellbeing to frontline workers. We partner with some of the world’s most famous employers, like Bupa, Burger King, Green King and the mighty NHS to give their teams access to fairer financial services - all built around flexible pay. Over three million people can now choose how often they’re paid, track their shifts and earnings, start saving, use budgeting tools, get free financial coaching, and access fairer financial products. All in one financial wellbeing super-app.
Stream is unique: VC-backed and growing at scale-up pace, but with a social conscience. Some of the world's leading financial charities and impact funds were our founding investors, and we operate on a social charter - which means every product we build has to improve financial health and reduce the $5.6bn ‘premium’ lower-income earners pay for financial services each year. You’d be joining a team of over 300 passionate, ambitious people, across Europe and the USA, building a category-leading fintech product and all united by that same mission.
The Team: You will be joining a high performing Finance team and report directly to the Group Financial Controller. This is currently a standalone role, you will be the sole owner of the AP and AR function, working closely with the GFC and wider Finance team. We are a group focused on proactivity, collaboration, and a drive for exceptional outcomes. In this role, you will be expected to engage with the different departments of the business.
What will you be doing? As the Accounts Assistant, you’ll own the AP & AR processes and be responsible for multi-currency bank reconciliations.
- Accounts Payable: be responsible for processing invoices and payments, ensuring payables are managed closely, via our automated AP software. Assist the GFC in cash management by planning weekly payment runs ensuring sufficient funds are available in operational bank accounts.
- Employee Expense Management: Own the expense management and corporate card spend processing, following up with users to ensure complete information is provided and maintaining compliance with our expense policy.
- Bank Reconciliations: Ensure that our multi-currency and banks are reconciled weekly, across all entities of the group, with queries raised and resolved in a timely manner.
- Fixed Asset Register: Responsible for maintaining the Fixed asset register across multiple entities, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and audit support.
- Accounts Receivable: Own the accounts receivable cycle, including invoicing, collection, payment reconciliation and bad debt review.
- Prepayments: Manage the end-to-end prepayments process, including identifying, recording, and amortising prepaid expenses in line with month-end close timetables.
- Balance Sheet Reconciliations: Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations for AP, AR, Prepayments, FAR, and ICO, resolving discrepancies in line with internal controls and close deadlines.
- Automation and Process Improvements: Take ownership of embedding automation and process improvements into the AP/AR & Bank reconciliation workflow.
What experience might you have? (But if you’re close… we’d still love to talk to you!)
- Experience: Proven experience in a combined or standalone AR/AP role, with hands-on invoicing and cash application experience.
- Your Approach to Work: You are highly analytical and take full ownership for the quality and integrity of your work. You are a proactive self-starter who doesn't just answer the questions asked but anticipates the next one. You are genuinely AI-literate: you use LLMs as a core part of your daily workflow, not as an occasional shortcut. You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and are comfortable juggling competing priorities and tight deadlines without sacrificing precision. You are intellectually curious and have a strong desire for continuous learning and development. You actively seek out feedback, are open to new ideas, and view challenges as opportunities to grow. You have strong interpersonal skills and can work effectively across the organisation and influence both peers and senior stakeholders.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel, experience with accounting software (for example Netsuite or Xero) and automated payable processing software (for example, Pivot, Tipalti, Ramp) and experience with external billing engines, such as Stripe, are helpful but not essential.
Hybrid Collaboration: Our team is headquartered in London and typically gathers in the office 4 days weekly. We believe in the power of in-person interaction, while empowering you with the autonomy to manage your schedule effectively.
Commitment to Our Mission: You are passionate about contributing to a company with a significant social mission.
What does success look like?
- Within 1 month you’ll have: Developed comfort navigating our systems and gained a working understanding of our tech stack. Understood our existing AP/AR and bank reconciliation processes.
- Within 3 months you’ll have: Consistently applied our existing AP/AR and bank reconciliation processes. Suggested possible improvements to our processes.
- Within 6 months you’ll have: Implemented an improvement to our processes. Mastered our processes, working autonomously.
Working Policy: We operate a hybrid working policy with 4 days a week in-office expectation.
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 + equity (depending on experience)
What will we do for you?
- 25 Days Annual Leave in addition to public holidays (up to 5 day rollover), as well as flexible time off allowances for any ad-hoc childcare/family/caring needs.
