Work Placement Coordinator in Wakefield

Our Bachelor of Community Services students are required to undertake 2 x 200 hour placements in the community services sector during their course. Work integrated learning (WIL) is one of the most important parts of student’s education – an opportunity to integrate theory and practice through authentic placements as frontline community workers. Students get the chance to explore the diverse range of roles across the sector and also benefit immensely with constructive feedback from experienced professionals.

This role is responsible for ensuring high quality Work-Integrated Learning for students through the provision of safe, timely, appropriate and sufficient community services placement experiences in line with curriculum requirements and industry accreditation requirements. This role has internal and external stakeholders and works as part of a national team.

• Placement coordination

• Secure placement allocations from organisations aligned to Community Work Australia (CWA) requirements.
• Preparing and developing risk matrix for placement agencies’ main supervisor and task supervisor (wherever required) following CWA requirements and guidelines.
• Be the first point of contact with the agencies for placement, to discuss and negotiate the requirements, to resolve the issues and challenges, and to facilitate the procedures for paid placements.
• Work with the Placement Administrator and Academic Placement Team to plan, coordinate, and allocate students to appropriate placement opportunities as outlined by program requirements.
• Contribute to the maintenance of current placement related information in student management systems (InPlace), and Careers Connect including placement readiness projections.
• Provide monthly reporting to the Program Director in terms of number of ongoing Student Placement Agreements (SPAs), number of new SPAs, number of agencies in contact for further SPAs, number of WIL agreements, number of students placed in placements, and any issues/challenges with potential intervention strategies.
• Work collaboratively across Torrens University’s departments, e.g. with academics, the relevant success coach, the WIL and Employability Team, and the WIL Learning Facilitator to ensure academic success and employability outcomes.
• Work with placement team nationally to ensure consistency, sharing of best practice and providing support as required.
• Respond appropriately to any issues experienced while students are on placement and collaborate with the academic placement team to discuss and resolve the issues, wherever required.
• Teaching placement subjects (considering the workload distribution), wherever required.

• Work with the WIL Learning Facilitator and the Academic Placement teaching team to ensure students are aware of requirements for placement in a timely manner including placement allocation logbook and mandatory requirements (e.g. Police Check, Working with Children Check, Immunisations, etc) in accordance with local requirements. This includes class visits, orientation presentations and responding to student queries in a timely manner.
• Model appropriate professional behaviour to students.

• Establish, develop and maintain professional relationships with relevant organisations in public, private and not for profit sectors.
• Establish, develop and maintain community services placement contracts with facilities in public, private and not for profit sectors.
• Conduct site visits and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) checks as required.

This is a full-time permanent role with a vacancy based in Wakefield Street, Adelaide and a vacancy based in Flinders Street, Melbourne.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A minimum of Masters Level Degree in welfare, social work, community work, human services, community services - related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years practical experience in a community services or related setting. This experience can be after relevant undergraduate degree.
• Professional registration with relevant industry body e.g. CWA (Community Work Australia) or AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers) or ACA (Australian Counselling Association) preferable.
• Valid National Police Check and Working with Children Check.
• Demonstrated teaching and/or working experience in the health/community services sector.
• Detailed understanding of CWA (Community Work Australia) accreditation guidelines and placement requirements.
• A strong knowledge in specific subject areas combined with a broad disciplinary background enabling contributions to the Community Services Program.
• Proactively identifies student and business needs and proposes value-adding solutions.
• Ability to effectively manage and apply key conflict resolution skills in the student environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and has committed to continuously strive for professional development.
