The Company

Our client is an established and growing construction business with a current turnover of approximately £3.5m per annum. The company operates predominantly as a subcontractor across the office, leisure, and social housing sectors, delivering a wide range of fit-out, refurbishment, and light building works. The business is starting to deliver projects in the capacity of a Principal Contractor and has strong ambition in this regard. The company has built a strong reputation for reliable delivery, quality workmanship, and a flexible, client-focused approach, often working within live environments and on fast-paced programmes. The business combines a trusted supply chain with an experienced direct labour force, enabling a high level of control over programme and quality on site. They are now entering an exciting phase of growth, with clear plans to scale to £10.0m turnover within the next two years.

As part of this growth, it is actively transitioning from its traditional subcontractor role into operating as a Principal Contractor, taking on full project responsibility and expanding its service offering. This evolution will require strengthening internal capability, processes, and leadership, creating a significant opportunity for the right individual to play a key role in shaping the future of the business.

The Role

With the business expanding, the managing director/founder is looking to recruit a 2IC. Someone who can deputise for him and help with the ambitious growth plans. The Head of Project/Contracts Manager will be responsible for leading and managing all operational aspects of project delivery across the business. This is a senior, hands-on role that requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and commercial awareness.

You will play a key role in:

  • Driving operational performance and consistency
  • Building and developing delivery teams
  • Supporting business growth and scalability
  • Leading the transition into Principal Contractor responsibilities

This role is ideally suited to an experienced Project/Contracts Manager or an Operations Manager with a strong background in main contracting or with a fit out company and is looking to take the next step into a broader leadership position.

The Candidate

Given the importance of the role, the company really needs a dedicated, hard-working team player. Someone who perhaps always wanted to set up their own business and understands the importance of client relationships, delivering excellence, and commercial acumen. As this business grows, so will the head of projects remit leading to a Construction or an Operations director's role. The ideal candidate will have worked for a main contractor, fit out company, or even a sub-contractor and relish the opportunity to grow a business. The role would suit someone who is ambitious and is prepared to work hard and when required to help the business grow.

The Opportunity

Roles like this do not come along very often. Together with a good salary, the owner of the business wants to really motivate this hire and as such will offer a profit share bonus structure giving the individual the opportunity to earn a six-figure package. The company will offer a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment where individuals can have a real impact, influence business direction, and grow alongside the company. If you feel it is time in your career to drive a business and perhaps feel like there are too many layers of management above you, then this could be the role for you.

We would ask you to only apply if you are North West based and can demonstrate longevity in your previous roles which must be with a contractor or sub-contractor.
