We are recruiting a Deputy Care Manager for an OFSTED-registered therapeutic children's home in Crewe, supporting children and young people with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (EBD). This is a temp to perm opportunity within an established and specialist residential service committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment where children feel valued, supported, and able to thrive.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced senior or deputy-level professional looking to take the next step in their career within a therapeutic children's service. You will play a key role in supporting the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the home, maintaining high standards of care, and ensuring compliance with Children's Homes (England) Regulations and OFSTED Quality Standards.

A comprehensive induction and ongoing training will be provided to support your transition into the role.

Role Overview

As Deputy Care Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in leading the staff team and overseeing the daily operation of the home. You will ensure children receive consistent, high-quality, therapeutic care and that staff are supported to deliver practice that is child-centred, reflective, and trauma-informed. You will contribute to creating a stable, structured, and nurturing environment that promotes emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour, and positive outcomes for children and young people.

The role involves a combination of management responsibilities and hands-on care, including shift work across early, late, long days, and sleep-ins as part of a rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day management of the children's home
  • Ensure high-quality, therapeutic care in line with Children's Homes Regulations and OFSTED Quality Standards
  • Lead shifts, supervise staff practice, and act as a positive role model
  • Support staff with guidance, mentoring, and reflective practice
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with children and young people
  • Promote emotional safety, stability, and positive behaviour using trauma-informed approaches
  • Oversee the implementation and review of care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support plans
  • Ensure accurate, child-focused recording and reporting in line with regulatory requirements
  • Support safeguarding, health & safety, and equality & diversity across the service
  • Work collaboratively with families, professionals, and external agencies
  • Contribute to staff development, rota planning, and maintaining a positive team culture
  • Support the home in achieving positive OFSTED outcomes and continuous improvement

Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma in Children's Residential Care (or equivalent) - essential
  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a Senior Children's Residential Support Worker or Deputy role within a children's residential setting
  • Experience supporting children and young people with EBD, trauma, or complex emotional needs
  • Experience leading shifts and supporting staff performance and development
  • Strong understanding of OFSTED regulations, safeguarding, and residential care standards
  • Ability to work flexibly across a 24-hour rota, including early, late, long day, and sleep-in shifts
  • Calm, resilient, and reflective approach to leadership and challenging situations
  • Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, child-centred, therapeutic care
  • Willingness to commit to a temp to perm opportunity
  • Enhanced DBS (Child & Adult workforce) Update Service preferred
  • Full UK driving licence preferred
