Residential Care Practitioner
to join a children's residential home supporting children and young people with
Learning Disabilities (LD), Autism and additional complex needs . About the Role:
As a Residential Care Practitioner, you will play an important role in providing high-quality, person-centred care within a safe, nurturing and supportive residential environment. You will support children and young people with varying levels of learning disabilities and additional needs, helping them develop confidence, independence, communication skills and everyday life skills. The role requires someone who is patient, resilient and able to adapt their approach to meet each young person's individual needs. You will work closely with colleagues, families and other professionals to ensure each child receives consistent and meaningful support. Key Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, person-centred care to children and young people with learning disabilities, autism and complex needs.
Support young people with daily routines, personal care and individual health and wellbeing needs.
Promote independence and support the development of practical life skills.
Build positive, trusting and professional relationships with young people.
Support individual communication needs and encourage choice and participation.
Follow individual care plans, risk assessments and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans.
Respond calmly and appropriately to behaviours that may challenge, using de-escalation and approved intervention techniques where required.
Support young people with education, activities, appointments and community access.
Administer or support with medication in accordance with policies and training.
Maintain accurate daily records, incident reports and other care documentation.
Work collaboratively with families, social workers, education providers, healthcare professionals and other agencies.
Maintain high standards of safeguarding and promptly report any concerns.
Support admissions, transitions and changes in placement.
Participate in team meetings, supervision and ongoing training.
Work a flexible shift pattern, including weekends, bank holidays and sleep-ins where required.
Essential Requirements
A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
Previous experience within Learning Disabilities
Good understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Patient, resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Basic IT skills and confidence completing electronic care records.
Must have
Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
Ability to work shifts, weekends and sleep-ins.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
Previous experience supporting children or young people with
Learning Disabilities, Autism, ADHD or complex needs .
Experience using
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
and de-escalation techniques.
Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare,Children and Young People or a related subject.
Experience within a children's residential home, specialist education or learning disability service.
