We are recruiting a dedicated and experienced Senior Children's Residential Support Worker to join an established children's residential EBD (Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties) home in Birmingham. This is a key leadership role within a stable and well-run service, supporting the management team while delivering high-quality, trauma-informed care to children and young people with complex emotional and behavioural needs.
As a Senior Support Worker, you will lead shifts, act as a positive role model for the staff team and help maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment that promotes stability, resilience and positive outcomes for children and young people.
Pay & Hours:
- £14.95 per hour
- £70 per sleep-in
- Flexible shift work including day, early, late and sleep-in shifts
- Opportunity for ongoing and permanent employment within an established service
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing direct care and support to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and additional or complex needs
- Leading shifts and acting as the senior on duty when required
- Supporting, mentoring and guiding Residential Support Workers to maintain high standards of care
- Assisting with care planning, risk assessments and behaviour management plans
- Promoting safeguarding, therapeutic approaches and trauma-informed practice
- Managing and responding to challenging behaviour in line with individual support plans
- Supporting daily routines, education, appointments and activities
- Transporting children and young people to education, appointments and activities when required
- Maintaining accurate records and contributing to reports, reviews and handovers
- Working closely with the Deputy Manager and Registered Manager to support the smooth running of the home
Requirements:
- Experience working with children in a residential or related setting (essential)
- Transferable experience from education, SEN, youth work, care or support work will be considered
- Experience supporting children with additional or complex needs
- Ability to work day, early, late and sleep-in shifts
- Strong communication skills with a calm, professional and child-focused approach
- Confidence to lead shifts and support less experienced staff
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and children's residential regulations
- Resilient, reliable and motivated to support vulnerable children and young people
Additional / Preferred:
- Full UK driving licence (preferred)
- Child and Adult Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (preferred)
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Previous experience as a Senior Support Worker or in an acting senior role
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques and therapeutic approaches
- Experience working within EBD or therapeutic residential services
