The Subway has been modernised twice in its history, with the previous modernisation in the late 1970s. We are currently undertaking a £288m transformation project which will make the Subway one of the most advanced systems in Europe. With the new fleet now operational, it is your opportunity to help deliver the UK’s first fully Unattended Train Operation (UTO) system.
About the Role
You will carry out diagnostics, repairs and planned maintenance of a range of electrical equipment, including power and automated signalling/control systems, to support ongoing Subway maintenance. This role supports the modernisation activity and new asset introduction, and provides an excellent opportunity to broaden your technical skills.
About You
You will have experience as a time‑served technician in a recognised electrical or multi‑skilled engineering discipline, preferably in an automated maintenance environment where fault finding is critical. Safety is our priority, so experience working in a safety‑critical environment is essential. Experience in main‑line signalling is desirable, but a positive collaborative attitude and experience working flexibly in a multi‑disciplinary team are more important. Good communication skills are essential to maintain accurate data on our asset management system, a key component in driving reliability.
This is a safety‑critical role across all areas of the Subway system and may require assisting with engineering incidents within areas of competence. The position falls into the high-risk category under the Alcohol and Drugs policy and is subject to random and for‑cause testing procedures.
You will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, 38 hours per week on average, on a 5‑week rotating shift pattern that includes some weekend working. You will be based at our Broomloan Depot in Govan, Glasgow. As part of the recruitment process you will complete aptitude testing.
