Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven regional transport partnerships. We run the Glasgow Subway, a host of specialist bus services and are responsible for delivering better public transport for all. The Subway has been modernised twice in its history with the previous modernisation taking place in the late 1970s. We are currently finalising a £288m transformational project which will result in the Subway being one of the most advanced systems in Europe. About the Role
You will lead and manage the Maintenance Services Team which comprises of the Performance Engineering, Stores, Technical Training and Administration functions within SPT Subway’s Maintenance Depot. You will support The Head of Engineering & Maintenance and provide direction to the Performance Manager to ensure the Glasgow Subway system reliability and availability are measured, analysed and continuously improved whilst also leading the Technical Training team ensuring that our maintenance staff are developed to safely perform scheduled and corrective maintenance as well as undertaking effective fault-finding. Role responsibility also includes SPT’s internal Stores function, whilst also playing a lead role with suppliers providing critical parts and support to the maintenance organisation. You will lead across varied support functions with the ability to prioritise and problem solve, whilst working collaboratively with other stakeholders and departments and take responsibility for significant and challenging scopes. You will be involved in a wide range of different activities, establishing familiarity with a variety of Subway assets, and be involved in a series of improvement projects and initiatives.
About you
The successful candidate will have a degree in engineering or a relevant management subject. Membership of a professional body (preferably Institute of Asset Management, IET or IMechE) is desirable. You will have experience of managing functions within a maintenance environment, with knowledge of engineering asset management as well as good knowledge across multi-disciplinary technical systems and sub-systems. Experience of working in a rail or similar environment is desirable though not essential. A self-motivated individual with a drive to succeed, you will have effective communication, problem solving and numeracy skills and be confident in dealing with technical information. You will be a highly motivated, reliable, and capable individual with excellent influencing skills, able to negotiate with others to resolve competing priorities.
Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. The nature of this role may require you to work out with normal office hours on occasion, to support the operational requirements of the organisation. This may include occasional nightshift working. You will be based at Broomloan Depot, Robert Street, Govan, Glasgow, G51 3HB.
