Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) is the largest of Scotland’s seven Regional Transport Partnerships, established by the Transport (Scotland) Act 2005. As well as running the iconic Glasgow Subway, SPT delivers an extensive range of public transport services including bus stations and subsidised bus services, delivers projects directly and in partnership with others, and is responsible for preparation of the statutory Regional Transport Strategy for the west of Scotland.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Bus Development Officer (Infrastructure) to join the Bus Development team within our wider Bus Strategy and Delivery department. SPT is leading on the development of the Strathclyde Regional Bus Strategy (SRBS) which aims to provide a world class bus network which reverses the long‑term decline in travel by bus, by developing a more efficient bus system which is fully integrated with other public transport, affordable to all and plays a key role in the social, environmental and economic development of the region.
The Bus Development Officer (Infrastructure) will play a key role in the Bus Development and Infrastructure section, developing and managing bus stop and shelter installations and activities to help improve and maintain our services for the travelling public across all of the Strathclyde region. We are looking for someone who is professional, highly organised, who has experience in dealing with contractors, infrastructure installations and managing budgets. The role involves liaising with suppliers and stakeholders in relation to the installation and upgrading of bus stop infrastructure. You will support the Bus Development (Infrastructure) Team Leader and Bus Development Manager with the co‑ordination, development and delivery of our key objectives.
Our ideal candidate will have a good level of education and experience of working in a similar facilities / infrastructure management environment, with the ability to communicate well, lead and influence others and deliver positive change. Knowledge and experience of public transport operations would be desirable, alongside knowledge of the legislative framework within which SPT operates, particularly in relation to bus service infrastructure.
The key responsibilities of the post are outlined below:
- Management of and liaison with SPT’s appointed contractors in relation to the installation, maintenance and cleaning of bus stop infrastructure (bus stops, shelters, Real Time Passenger Information displays and associated infrastructure) to the standards set in SPT’s Service Level Agreements.
- Assist with the system and software aspects of SPT’s Real Time Passenger Information system as necessary.
- Support the delivery of SPT’s Capital Programme of bus infrastructure and other improvements.
- Liaise with partner Local Authorities and internal partners in furtherance of these aims.
- Assist and support the Bus Infrastructure Team Leader with any project input necessary in matters relating to bus development, bus strategy, SPT’s capital projects and related activities.
- Assist with the development of procedures to manage the bus shelter advertising contract on behalf of Client Councils and the bus stop agency agreements and provide and present reports as required.
- Produce reports in relation to infrastructure agency agreements and other infrastructure issues including financial reporting.
Full time hours will be 35 hours per week Monday to Friday. However, you may be required to undertake work outwith this norm to meet the responsibilities of the post. You will be based at 131 St Vincent Street, Glasgow. SPT operate a hybrid working pattern which allows 40% home working, i.e. 2 days per week Monday to Friday.
