Job Description
As part of the largest local authority in Scotland, Education Services, which is one of the five services within Glasgow City Council, is responsible for the teaching and learning of around 80,000 children and young people across nursery, primary, secondary, and additional support needs sectors.
As a Head of Service, you will lead the development and delivery of service excellence across our schools within a defined geographical area. Your leadership will be pivotal in achieving our aims and objectives, ensuring that every child and young person receives the highest quality education.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic approaches for various activities aimed at raising attainment and achievement, especially for those experiencing significant deprivation. You will also lead quality improvement initiatives within the Primary sector, fostering continuous improvement and excellence.
As part of the senior management team, you will work to improve outcomes for children and young people in Glasgow, ensuring resources are aligned with the Council\’s commitment to improved school performance and reducing the attainment gap.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of education services and have a proven track record of senior leadership in similar service portfolios.
To succeed, you must bring leadership, energy, vision, and strong stakeholder management skills. You should be an innovative, dynamic thinker, focused on driving service improvements to meet Council objectives.
A passion for ensuring high-quality education for Glasgow\’s children and young people is essential, equipping them with skills for learning, life, and work.
Candidates should be educated to at least degree level in a relevant discipline and eligible for registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS). Membership of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme is essential upon appointment, as is eligibility for registration with the GTCS and SSSC. Note that successful candidates will need to pay for PVG membership or scheme checks. This post is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
