Purpose of Role
Process Safety discipline support covering project deliverables to ensure the risks associated with Major Accident Hazards are managed to ALARP and in accordance with relevant statutory provisions. Champions process safety principles across the Company's organisation, Engineering Contractors & Consultants.
Critical Responsibilities (MAE/MATTE/HSES)
- Ensuring that all activities are carried out in a safe manner complying with all regulatory requirements, legislation and the Company's HSES Procedures, Values, Behaviours and Process Safety.
Ethics and Compliance Responsibilities
- Ensure that all activities and behaviours are carried out in accordance with the Company's Ethics and Compliance Policies and Procedures, and to complete any compulsory compliance training as required.
Areas of Accountability, Responsibility and Competence
This position is required to provide Process Safety/Technical Safety Engineering Support to a broad range of engineering modifications and projects from initial concept through to operational handover. The role will be required to work autonomously, embedded within the Company’s Projects department, with support from the Process Safety Lead and Process Safety TA as required.
- Responsible for Technical Safety within engineering projects and operational modification designs ensuring compliance with technical safety engineering standards.
- Responsible for ensuring all MAH risks are reduced to a level judged ALARP.
- Review and endorse selected technical safety engineering approaches and risk management strategies.
- Support the Company’s Project Managers with project SOR development and review of bid tenders.
- Provide technical input into review and development of BODs.
- Undertake/manage technical safety studies and ensure regulatory compliance with statutory provisions and good practice; and ensure that activities are consistent with the Company’s Energy policies, procedures and standards.
- Manage work scopes executed both internally by the Client and externally by Engineering Contractors and Consultants.
- Interfacing with Engineering Contractors, Consultants, IVB and the Company’s key stakeholders (onshore & offshore).
- Support discussions with the Regulator relevant to project scopes and provide technical input into Statutory authority approvals and license applications where required.
- Ensure all Safety Case, Performance Standard & Formal Safety Assessment impacts as a result of project activity are identified, provide technical input into updates as required and ensure submission within correct timeframes.
- Monitor and deliver progression of project technical safety deliverables and studies to conclusion, within cost and schedule.
- Review project documentation to ensure compliance with the Company’s HSE policies, procedures and standards.
- Arrange and attend risk identification and assessment workshops for all project phases (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, Constructability Reviews, etc.) as required.
- Support the development of human factors awareness within the Company’s Projects team.
- Communicate regularly with Process Safety Team Lead, Asset Engineers, project teams, Technical Authorities and other key stakeholders as required.
- Liaise with the Company’s operational teams to ensure awareness, engagement and buy in on project scopes and ensure correct interfacing arrangements are established between operations centres and projects.
- Seek improvements in hazard awareness, risk assessment, and risk-based decision making through industry engagement.
- Collaborate externally and implement lessons learned.
- Champion innovation and technology adoption within the Company’s projects.
Critical Skills, Qualifications, Experience, etc.
- Extensive record of working in process safety related roles with substantial UKCS experience; and suitable experience in application of Technical Safety Engineering and assessment techniques to modification scopes.
- Degree qualified in a technical discipline relevant to process engineering or process safety.
- A member of a recognised professional body which requires ongoing CPD, preferably a Chartered Engineer or working towards.
- Candidates must have The Right to Work In The UK as no sponsorship is available.
