Our client, an Oil and Gas Company is seeking a Control Engineer. This is a PAYE contract role until 31 December 2026.
Role Summary
The Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer reporting to EICT lead will be a member of the Project Management Team, working collaboratively within the Project organisation, systems, procedures, and methods. This role has been identified as a “Key Position” within the project organisation and it is required that She / He is available and willing to continue to work in this position to the end of EPC phase.
The I&C Engineer is responsible and accountable towards PDE for design solution and all engineering activities within Project towards Instrumentation & Control and Metering discipline. The I&C Engineer shall ensure that all relevant work internal and external in these disciplines related to the Project is executed to meet:
- Class, Flag and British Regulatory Requirements as per Regulatory Compliance Plan (RCP)
- Contract Requirements
- Project Specifications, Codes and Standards.
One of the main activities of I&C Engineer will involve taking lead for defining and then overlooking execution of SAS system modifications (PCS, PSD, PSD, and F&G) as well as verification and modification of field instrumentation and Metering system. I&C Engineer shall ensure that all project contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders prepared in the relevant areas / disciplines for EPC execution of the defined work reflect the required regulatory and standards compliance.
Accountabilities
- Ensure that relevant activities within the discipline are within the company framework and in conformance with contract requirements, Project Execution Plan, and relevant laws and regulations. The health and safety of personnel, natural and working environment and equipment shall be taken care of.
- Work with operations, construction, Mc and commissioning team to ensure clear guidance and clarifications are provided with regards to scope of work and specifically for life extension activities for I&C and Metering discipline which will cover areas such as SAS and field instrumentation.
- Work with Regulatory Compliance & Verification Lead and Contractors to ensure that required compliance and verification activities in areas of I&C and Metering are defined and executed as required.
- Review and comment documents such as instrument datasheets, C&E diagrams, instrument block diagrams, specifications, work packages prepared by Contractor.
- Comment on the I&C and metering design including arrangement on operability, functionality, accessibility, and maintainability to meet requirements in laws, regulations, class, flag, and contract.
- Responsible for IDC comments verification and approval within I&C and metering engineering and respond to relevant TQ’s or non-conformances.
- Prepare I&C technical philosophies, specifications, documents, and drawings as required.
- Participate in work pack review sessions as well as ensure that all work packs prepared by contractor are complete in terms of scope definition in areas of I&C and Metering.
- Review comments from Certifying Authority on design of the I&C and metering systems and assist in resolving issues.
- Participate in design reviews, HAZID’s, HAZOP’s and any other related safety studies.
- Monitor and review Contractor’s I&C and metering overhaul, demolition, construction, installation and hookup activities and report to the EICT lead on any failure or gap to Project, regulatory and contract requirements.
- Monitor, review and support mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities in areas of I&C and metering along with EICT Lead.
- Report to the EICT Lead any delays in progress under his/her area of responsibility.
- Report to the EICT Lead any failure of design or gap between the delivered I&C solution and the contract requirement and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Participate in meetings and audits/ inspections as required, worldwide.
- Coordinate Lessons Learned input to PDE Project Management Team.
- Close assigned Technical Query (TQ) and other Action Tracker items in PIMS or formal MOM.
- Represent I&C and metering at Yard and take a lead in resolving any action, Punch, Query etc. raised at yard toward Engineering for I&C and metering discipline.
- Handle and knowledgeable on Interface subsystem.
- Collaborate closely with other key disciplines in the Project Management Team. Call off assistance from discipline resources within area of responsibility as needed in order to keep quality and progress.
- Other duties as required by the Engineering Manager & EICT Lead.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technical education on bachelor level or higher within I&C Engineering.
- Significant experience within I&C engineering discipline.
- Recent experience of working on modification projects and / or FPSO redeployment is strongly desired.
- Recent experience of working in a similar role on UK North Sea projects will be an advantage.
- Recent experience in areas of UK compliance and working knowledge of ABB control.
