Role Purpose: To provide specialist nutrition assessment, personalised interventions, and ongoing support for adults with complex obesity requiring Tier 3 specialist weight management services. The post-holder will work within a multidisciplinary team to support sustainable weight management, optimise metabolic health, and patients for potential Tier 4 referral if required. The role will require dynamic working that embraces the vision and values we wish to establish for the specialist weight management service to support people to achieve healthy lives. You will be passionate about working with individuals to begin the life-changing processes necessary for permanent and continued weight loss and weight maintenance. You will understand challenges and barriers that adults face with relation to their health (both physical and mental) and wellbeing. You will engage with, and build a good rapport with adults from varying communities across our services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver ABL Health Specialist Weight Management Programme including nutrition, behaviour change and exercise delivery to groups and through one-to-ones, through face-to-face interventions and digital methods.
  • Lead on the delivery of multi-disciplinary assessments working closely with ABL’s GP and Psychotherapist to determine an appropriate, person-centred care plan.
  • Deliver evidence-based education around nutrition, physical activity and behavioural change as advised by ABL Health team and in line with ABL Health programme curriculums.
  • Deliver programmes with a client-centred approach using skills of positive psychology and motivational interviewing.
  • Monitor clients progress through regular consultation and with the use of Microsoft Excel, identifying specific treatment for those not on track to achieve their goals.
  • Assess and support eligible clients in your caseload to receive a referral to tier 4 for bariatric surgery, remaining up to date with NICE guidance at all times.
  • Work with clients and stakeholders to co-produce in-session materials.
  • Contribute to the contract performance report by submitting regular case studies to the project lead.
  • Contribute to training and support new staff and volunteers.
  • Work with individuals and groups using SMART goal setting.
  • Keep detailed files, recording data accurately, ensuring all forms and other documentation is completed correctly.
  • Undertake and complete all mandatory and additional skills training as required.
  • Have a thorough understanding of ABL Health policies and procedures.
  • Engage and recruit potential clients at promotional and community events.
  • Develop curriculum resources to be signed off by the service professional lead and utilised in projects.
  • Contribute to ongoing service development needs.
  • Attend and actively participate in team and wider company meetings, such as MDT and clinical supervision.
  • Maintain regular CPD in line with the AFN regulations, working towards full registration when appropriate.
  • Be able to organise own workload in order of priority and deadline dates, daily administration tasks and other work-related activities.
  • Demonstrate personal and professional development in line with ethos of lifelong learning.
  • Work within the framework of clinical governance to maintain and improve patient care, quality and efficiency.
  • Provide support for Nutritionists working towards full registration with the AFN (RNutr).
  • Provide training to and support the induction process for new and existing Nutritionists.
  • Provide or contribute to companywide nutrition training, where applicable.
  • Support Project Lead with the writing of performance reports, where required.
  • Be able to travel flexibly across the project area, where required.

Standard Information

  • The postholder will be required, when and where appropriate to the role, to comply with the processing of requests under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  • The postholder must comply with ABL's policies that protect the information assets of the organisation from unauthorised disclosure, modification, destruction, inappropriate access or use.
  • The postholder will be responsible for maintaining the clinical and/or corporate records that fall within the remit of this role to the standards in ABL's records management policies, and data quality processes and standards.
  • Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974: the postholder is required to fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards, and a statutory duty of care for their own personal safety and that of others who may be affected by their acts or omissions.
  • Safeguarding: ABL has a responsibility to ensure that all children / young people and adults are adequately safeguarded and protected. As a consequence, all ABL employees, temporary staff and volunteers are required to adhere to ABL's safeguarding policies / procedures in addition to local and national safeguarding policies and to act upon any concerns in accordance with them.
