Job Summary
You will deliver outcome focused evidence-based therapy-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties to support them to improve their emotional health and build resilience. This will include (virtual & F2F) individual, group work and peer support. Working as part of the Be U Swindon Community Team you will be part of the delivery of this day, evening and weekend provision, working on a rotational basis.
Job Responsibilities
As a Mental Health Practitioner, you will support children and young people (CYP) in accessing timely emotional and therapeutic interventions across Be U Swindon hubs (day services) and Haven (evening service). You will report to the SPA & Community Service Lead and receive clinical supervision from the Senior Practitioner. You will deliver one‑to‑one and group therapeutic support in both community and clinical settings. Tasks include initial assessments, counselling, facilitating peer support, and providing advice and guidance through the single point of access. In Haven, you will respond to urgent referrals, offering immediate emotional support to CYP presenting with significant safety needs. You will maintain accurate and confidential case notes, support safeguarding processes, build links with local services, and contribute to ongoing service development and innovation. Strong communication skills, a child-centered approach, and the ability to work independently (including some lone working and on‑call responsibilities) are essential.

Role Details
- Role Purpose: Deliver outcome focused evidence-based therapy-based interventions for CYP with mild to moderate mental health difficulties to improve emotional health and resilience. - Main Duties:
- Work under line management of the SPA & Community Service Lead and clinical supervision of the Senior Practitioner.
- Deliver interventions from Be U Swindon Hubs & Haven Service and community venues.
- Provide emotional support for CYP with significant safety needs in Haven (Evening service).
- Deliver emotional support and access to therapeutic interventions; contribute to safeguarding and risk management; signposting to local services.
- Develop links with other agencies and support service development and innovation.
- Work independently, including lone working and on‑call responsibilities.
Working Practice & Professional Standards
- Ethical Practice: Adhere to the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy or equivalent.
- Professional Registration: Maintain active membership with a recognised national body (e.g., BACP, UKCP, HCPC, BABCP, BPS, UKCP).
- Supervision: Attend supervision regularly (minimum 1.5 hours per FTE per month).
- Liability Insurance: Covered by employer insurance.
Experience & Qualifications
- Essential:
- 1 year post-qualification counselling/psychotherapy experience.
- Current UK professional registration.
- Experience with CYP and families; capable of guiding self-help and short-term counselling; group work experience; risk assessment and safeguarding awareness.
- Desirable:
- Experience in pathway development and delivering training/workshops to CYP and parents/carers.
- Experience in quality improvement measures.
