You will be the Counsellor/Psychological Therapist for ABL Health and support our Weight Management Services across Stockport. ABL Health aims to empower individuals and communities towards a healthier future by promoting health awareness. The Counsellor/Psychological Therapist integrates psychological theory with therapeutic techniques to help people overcome and deal with problematic life events and mental health issues. They engage people and their communities to help identify barriers whilst empowering them to overcome these.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Working under the Obesity and Families Lead, delivering therapeutic interventions to adults in targeted weight management programmes.
  • Conducting psychological and risk assessments.
  • Delivering person-centred or integrative psychotherapy.
  • Supporting clients through sensitive and complex issues related to weight and behaviour.
  • Maintaining accurate records and contributing to MDT meetings.
  • Attending peer supervision and collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Supporting service development through evidence-based practice and continuous professional learning.
  • Ensuring culturally sensitive care and safeguarding responsibilities are upheld.

Skills and competencies required:

  • Experience as a therapist in a community health environment.
  • Experience of working with diverse communities within varied cultural environments.
  • Adept in communication, adapting messages to fit the audience's needs.
  • Quality driven, seeking high standards and actively improving them.
  • Open to new ideas and perspectives.
  • A desire to make a difference in the lives and wellbeing of individuals.

Working practice expectations include:

  • Abiding by the Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
  • Maintaining active membership with a national organisation representing psychological therapy.
  • Pursuing accreditation or registration with relevant bodies.
  • Attending supervision at least 1.5 hours per month.

Qualifications:

  • Professional counselling/psychotherapy qualifications and/or IAPT or similar.
  • Registered or accredited member of a professional body.

Experience:

  • Experience of delivering individual psychotherapeutic interventions.
  • Experience of facilitating psychological assessments and formulations.
  • Able to work in a therapeutic way that responds to client needs.
  • Experience or training in delivering brief group therapy.
