To support ABL’s ambitious growth strategy, we are seeking a Bid Writer to join our successful Business Development Team. This dynamic role will write high‑quality, compliant and compelling bids, supporting ABL to diversify into aligned markets and to maintain and grow its existing services.

Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Write high‑quality, persuasive and compliant bid responses across a range of subject areas.
  • Interpret tender specifications, quality questions and evaluation criteria to develop targeted written responses that address commissioner priorities and scoring requirements.
  • Translate complex clinical, operational and performance information into clear, accessible and compelling narrative tailored to the intended audience.
  • Coordinate written input from subject matter experts, edit and shape contributions to ensure consistency of tone, structure, messaging and quality.
  • Ensure all written responses fully address the questions asked, remain within word limits, and clearly demonstrate compliance and added value.
  • Edit, proofread and format bid content to a high professional standard, ensuring accuracy, consistency and alignment with ABL’s writing style and branding.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider bid and business development team to understand requirements, clarify content needs and resolve issues affecting the quality of written responses.
  • Support post‑tender written activity, including drafting responses to written requests for information and providing narrative support for presentations.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of ABL’s bid content library, ensuring materials are current, reusable and reflect best practice.
  • Provide ad‑hoc writing and content development support to the Business Development Team as required.

Bid Governance & Assurance

  • Own day‑to‑day tender portal management, including registration, document download and upload.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date bid trackers, pipelines and compliance logs, providing clear visibility of status, deadlines, risks and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of bid governance processes, templates, trackers and controls to enhance efficiency, compliance and audit readiness.

Skills & Competencies Required

  • Experience in a community health or similar environment and a passion for creating innovative, engaging and compliant bid submissions.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, concise and persuasive responses that translate complex technical ideas into accessible language.
  • Strong proofreading and editing ability with a focus on grammar, accuracy and consistency.
  • Proven ability to write compelling content for a range of audiences.
  • Experience of working with directors and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience in a public health or similar setting.
  • High level of intellectual rigour, political awareness, negotiation and motivation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a culture that supports individuals taking risks to innovate.

Person Specification – Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in health care or a related subject, e.g., Public Health, Psychology, English.

Essential Experience

  • Proven ability to write compelling content for a range of audiences.
  • Experience of working with directors.
  • Experience in a public health or similar setting.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience and understanding of public health commissioning.
  • Previously part of an in‑house Business Development or equivalent team.
  • 1+ years experience within a bid‑writing or equivalent role.
