One of our well known clients is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Transport Planner to join their Leeds office. The role offers an excellent opportunity to begin a career in transport planning within a supportive consultancy environment, working alongside experienced professionals on a range of development‑led and infrastructure projects. As a Graduate Transport Planner, you will support senior team members in delivering high‑quality transport planning advice to clients across both the public and private sectors. The position will provide hands‑on experience across key areas of transport planning, technical analysis, and report preparation, with structured training and mentoring to support your professional development.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans to support planning applications
- Collecting, analysing, and interpreting transport data using tools such as TRICS, TEMPro, and Excel
- Supporting junction capacity and highway impact assessments using industry‑standard software, including Junctions 10 (ARCADY/PICADY) and LinSig
- Assisting with the preparation of plans, figures, and technical diagrams using GIS and AutoCAD (training provided where required)
- Undertaking research into national and local planning policy, transport guidance, and development frameworks
- Participating in site visits, transport surveys, and data collection exercises
- Attending internal and external meetings and supporting client and stakeholder communications under the supervision of senior colleagues
Qualifications & Skills
- A degree (or expected degree) in Transport Planning, Geography, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related discipline
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with good attention to detail
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- An interest in transport planning, sustainable travel, and infrastructure development
- A proactive, team‑oriented attitude and a willingness to learn within a consultancy environment
Supporting career development
- Familiarity with, or an interest in developing skills using, TRICS, TEMPro, Junctions 10, and LinSig (training provided as required)
- An understanding of the UK planning system and transport policy context related to development proposals
- Experience or interest in using GIS and AutoCAD to support technical outputs and visual materials
