A growing multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Flood Modeller with drainage experience to join its expanding Water & Environmental team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded consultancy delivering a wide range of flood risk, drainage and water management projects across the residential, commercial, retail and education sectors. The successful candidate can be based from Bristol, Cambridge, Didcot or Hemel Hempstead and will work closely with established Civil Engineering teams across the business. The role offers significant flexibility, with the option to work predominantly from home.
The Role
You will play a key role in the delivery of flood modelling, flood risk and drainage projects from inception through to completion whilst supporting the continued growth of the Water & Environmental team. Projects include:
- Fluvial and pluvial flood modelling
- Site‑specific Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs)
- Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Flood compensation schemes
- Watercourse realignment and improvement works
- Safe access and emergency planning assessments
- Climate change impact assessments
- Verification and enhancement of Environment Agency models
- Flood management action plans and mitigation strategies
Projects range from individual residential developments through to strategic sites of over 3,000 units, alongside major commercial and industrial developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver Flood Risk Assessments and hydraulic modelling studies
- Develop and review models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, HEC‑RAS and InfoWorks ICM
- Interpret hydrological and hydraulic data
- Produce high-quality technical reports
- Manage projects through all stages of delivery
- Liaise with clients, the Environment Agency and key stakeholders
- Mentor and support junior engineers
- Support business development and proposal preparation
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology or similar
- Strong consultancy experience in flood modelling and flood risk management
- Proficiency in TUFLOW and Flood Modeller
- Experience using InfoWorks ICM
- Experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments
- Good understanding of UK flood risk policy and guidance
- Experience managing projects and client relationships
- Strong technical reporting and communication skills
- Experience preparing drainage strategies and SuDS designs would be advantageous
- Chartered status (CEng or CIWEM), or working towards chartership, is desirable
