An ambitious and growing Civil & Structural Engineering Consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Senior CAD Technician to join its expanding technical team. Specialising in highway and rail infrastructure, the business delivers engineering expertise across the full asset lifecycle, from inspections and structural assessments through to permanent works design, temporary works and engineering assurance.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced CAD professional who wants more than just producing drawings. You'll play a leading role in developing the CAD function, establishing company standards, mentoring junior technicians and helping shape the future of the business as it continues to grow.
The Role
Working closely with Civil and Structural Engineers, you'll produce high‑quality technical drawings across a variety of rail and highway infrastructure projects while supporting the development of the company's digital design capability. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading the day‑to‑day operation and future development of the CAD department
- Developing and maintaining CAD standards, templates and digital workflows
- Producing detailed engineering drawings using AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Preparing General Arrangement drawings, reinforcement detailing, steelwork drawings and connection details
- Working closely with engineers to ensure drawings accurately reflect design intent
- Reviewing and checking drawings produced by other team members
- Managing drawing packages across multiple projects
- Mentoring and supporting junior CAD Technicians
- Ensuring all drawings comply with UK engineering standards and client requirements
About You
We're looking for someone who has:
- Proven experience as a CAD Technician using AutoCAD and MicroStation
- Experience delivering bridge or infrastructure projects within the rail and/or highways sector
- Strong understanding of UK engineering standards
- Excellent attention to detail with a solid appreciation of structural design principles
- Excellent communication skills and written English
- Eligibility to work in the UK
Desirable Experience
- ProjectWise
- Network Rail or Transport for Wales (TfW) documentation procedures
- HNC in Construction, Civil Engineering or Built Environment
- Experience within civil, structural, bridge or temporary works engineering
- BIM Level 2 knowledge
- Experience producing drawings from 3D topographical surveys, steelwork and reinforced concrete detailing
