Our multi-disciplinary client is looking for a technical strong and creative and passionate Senior Civil Engineer who has experience in managing others to join their Leeds team. Working within a supportive and welcoming team, the role will require you to produce efficient, high-quality technical designs for both new build and refurbishment projects. You will need to be enthusiastic, hard-working and looking to take on responsibility. The role:
- Manage external consultant designs for projects, and ensure information is collated and passed to the relevant departments.
- Oversee engineering works on site and answer technical questions where required.
- Ensure sites are adopted and handed over to the relevant authorities after the completion of works, including roads, sewers, services and management company land.
- Assist with training and mentoring other members of staff, particularly in relation to Civil Engineering site design.
- Ensure delivery of accurate, cost-effective design information for costing and construction.
- Liaise with clients and ensure designs reflect the clients requirements.
- Attend monthly project reviews and update the Lovell team on all aspects of site that are related to engineering.
- Provide technical support to internal and external teams which involve engineering input.
- Aiding all departments with regards to internal drawings.
- Ensure compliance and checking process of subcontractor design elements.
- Liaise with consultant engineers and architects where issues arise with information or unexpected site conditions are experienced; resolve issuing updated information to all parties for action.
- Identify potential design improvements within the business.
- Value engineer new sites using innovative design solutions or new engineering products.
- Anticipate problems and come up with cost effective solutions when they occur in order to.
- Weekly site visits to check on groundworker progress which will include photos.
- Potential pre-start investigation/survey work required depending on the information accumulated at the tender.
What you need to succeed:
- Working knowledge of local authority standards.
- Have strong capabilities in carrying out Civil Engineering designs, such as proposed site levels, site earthworks volumes / calculations and proposed drainage solutions.
- Have a reasonable understanding of Structural Engineering and liaise with consultants to ensure efficient designs are prepared and issued to relevant departments.
- Experience in liaising with Architects, Clients, Sub-contractors, Supply Chain and Product Manufacturers.
- Good understanding of latest engineering techniques with a continuous drive to learn and improve knowledge.
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise either within a team environment or working on their own initiative always ensuring that an organised structure is applied and agreed dates are met.
- Good health and safety awareness with confidence to question dangerous procedures.
- Ability to use AutoCAD and LSS design software (or equivalent software).
- Disciplined in all Windows packages (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project).
- Ability to use Engineering instruments including GPS, TPS, Grade Lasers and Dumpy Levels.
- Experience working on construction sites with strong understanding of construction methods for everything up to DPC.
- Knowledge of onsite materials, machinery and equipment.
- Good understanding of sectional agreements and process including NAVs agreements.
- Ability to review and analyse drainage reports.
- Drawing of internal plans such as CTMPs, phasing plans, compound layouts, as-builts.
- Ability to check levels, survey, measure and quant up volumes.
- Understanding of adoption process and the procedure/time frames.
- Experience in the design, construction and adoption of pump stations.
- Liaising with solicitors on the legal side of easements and the transfer of land during adoption periods.
- Ability to snag works for commercial and pricing purposes.
