We’re currently working with an established and growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy that is looking to appoint a Principal BIM Technician to join their team in either Cardiff or Bristol. With a strong reputation across civil and structural engineering, project management and digital delivery, the business is continuing to invest in its people, technology and capabilities. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced BIM professional to take a leading role in the continued development of BIM and digital engineering within an ambitious consultancy.

This position offers genuine scope to lead the digital transformation of a multidisciplinary business, helping shape how BIM is implemented, developed and utilised across the organisation. You’ll work closely with civil and structural engineering teams and have the opportunity to contribute to a varied project portfolio spanning commercial, healthcare, residential, aviation and energy, alongside an expanding pipeline of data centre projects across the UK and internationally. Rather than simply producing models and drawings, you’ll have the opportunity to influence standards, processes and workflows, improve digital collaboration and help develop the consultancy’s BIM capability as the business continues to grow.

The successful candidate will be an experienced BIM professional who can combine strong technical capability with the ability to lead, influence and improve digital delivery. You’ll need a solid understanding of BIM processes and standards, strong knowledge of relevant design software and the confidence to work with engineers, technicians, project teams and senior management to drive improvements. This is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys being hands-on technically but is now looking for greater responsibility and the opportunity to shape BIM strategy within a growing consultancy.

What’s On Offer

  • A genuine opportunity to lead BIM and digital transformation within a growing multidisciplinary consultancy.
  • Significant influence over BIM standards, processes and workflows, rather than simply working to an established framework.
  • Exposure to a highly varied project portfolio, including major commercial, healthcare, residential, aviation, energy and data centre schemes.
  • The opportunity to work on UK and international projects, with increasing involvement in the rapidly expanding data centre sector.
  • Agile and flexible working, supporting a strong work/life balance.
  • A strong focus on technical development, training and career progression, with regular internal and external CPD opportunities.
  • Support for professional development and professional institution membership, where appropriate.
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial working environment where experienced staff are encouraged to contribute ideas and influence the direction of the business.

What You Need To Succeed

  • Proven experience working as a BIM Technician, Senior BIM Technician, BIM Coordinator or similar, within a design engineering consultancy.
  • Strong technical capability using Autodesk Revit and relevant BIM/design software; experience with Civil 3D and/or Tekla Structures would be advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of BIM processes, information management, model coordination and digital delivery.
  • Experience developing and implementing BIM standards, procedures, templates and workflows.
  • The ability to coordinate models and information across multidisciplinary project teams and identify opportunities to improve digital delivery.
  • Strong understanding of relevant BIM standards and industry best practice, with the ability to translate these into practical processes.
  • Confident communication skills, with the ability to lead, mentor and influence engineers, technicians and other project stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to technology and digital innovation, with the ambition to shape and develop BIM capability rather than simply maintain existing processes.
  • Educated to HNC/HND level (or equivalent).
