No Previous Workshop Experience Required

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for a Junior Vehicle Technician / Trainee Vehicle Technician to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop their career within the automotive industry. Previous professional workshop experience is not essential, making this role ideal for a recent college leaver, someone who has completed a Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance course, or an individual who has gained practical mechanical experience working on their own vehicle, family or friends' cars.

The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in vehicle maintenance, a practical approach and, most importantly, a willingness to learn and develop their skills.

The Role

Working alongside experienced technicians, you will have the opportunity to develop your practical skills across a range of vehicle maintenance and repair activities.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting with routine servicing and vehicle maintenance

  • Supporting with brake and suspension work

  • Assisting with batteries, exhausts and other mechanical components

  • Carrying out basic vehicle checks and inspections

  • Using basic hand tools and workshop equipment

  • Assisting experienced technicians with fault finding and repairs

  • Developing knowledge of vehicle diagnostics

  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised workshop

  • Following health and safety procedures and manufacturer/workshop guidelines

  • Learning new mechanical skills through hands-on training and support

About You

Our client is looking for someone who is keen to learn, reliable and genuinely interested in developing a career in vehicle maintenance.

You should ideally have:

  • Basic mechanical knowledge covering areas such as brakes, suspension, servicing, batteries and exhausts

  • Some hands-on mechanical experience – this could be from college, personal projects, working on your own vehicle, helping family or friends, or previous employment

  • The ability to use basic tools safely and correctly

  • Good attention to detail, particularly when working on safety-critical components

  • A strong work ethic and reliable approach

  • The ability to follow instructions and work safely

  • Good communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine willingness to learn and develop

Diagnostics

Any basic knowledge of vehicle diagnostics would be advantageous.

An understanding of fault codes or experience using a diagnostic scanner would be beneficial, although this is not essential, as training and development opportunities will be available.

Qualifications

A motor vehicle qualification would be desirable but is not essential.

Applications are welcomed from candidates who have:

  • Level 1 Vehicle Maintenance

  • Level 2 Motor Vehicle Maintenance

  • Level 3 Motor Vehicle Maintenance

  • Automotive college training

  • An apprenticeship

  • Or relevant practical experience gained outside of formal employment or education

Candidates without formal qualifications will also be considered where they can demonstrate practical ability, enthusiasm and a genuine interest in vehicle maintenance.

Why Apply?

This is a great opportunity to join an established automotive business and develop your skills in a practical, hands-on environment.

For the right person, the role offers the opportunity to gain valuable workshop experience, learn from experienced technicians and build towards a long-term career within the automotive industry.

Driving Licence

A full UK driving licence is preferred.

Interested?

You don't need years of experience - we're looking for someone with the right attitude, basic mechanical knowledge and willingness to learn.
