The Domiciliary Care worker works as part of a team providing personal, domestic and social care at home to vulnerable individuals (including frail elderly, those with physical and learning disabilities and mental health) and their carers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal Care as specified on the care plan for the service user. This includes assisting service users with all aspects of personal hygiene i.e. washing, shaving, showering etc.
  • Assist service users with toileting, dressing/undressing and feeding.
  • Assist service users with mobility and transfer using correctly any specialised equipment provided.
  • Administer prescribed medication, only as directed by a qualified medical practitioner under the direction of a supervisor.
  • Assist service users with therapeutic programmes as directed by relevant professionals.
  • Domestic Care when directed, maintain cleanliness of Service users home to ensure a safe environment set out in the health and safety requirements.
  • When directed by the supervisor, preparing meals, lighting fires, attending to laundry, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Social Care to actively encourage service users according to their capabilities in the care plan to participate in daily activities.
  • To have the ability to listen and provide support to individual clients and carers.
  • Managing affairs under direction of supervisor, for example, collecting benefits, shopping.
  • Collaboration with other personnel involved in the care of the service user i.e. G.P’s, Nurses, and Social Workers etc.
  • General duties the domiciliary worker must maintain accurate and reliable information recorded in line with Strabane District Caring Services policies and procedures.
  • Participating in Induction programme and in-service training.
  • Relevant administration (completion of timesheets, incident forms, activity sheets, etc).
  • Adhere to and ensure safe practice according to health and safety procedures.
  • Any other appropriate duties as directed by the Care Coordinator.
  • The confidentiality of the client must be maintained at all times.
  • To comply with training and development requirements set out by Strabane District Caring Services.
  • Participate in Induction programme, attend in-service training and update mandatory training when required.
  • To adhere to the Health and Safety policy and procedures set out by Strabane District Caring Services i.e. Domiciliary Care Regulations, National Minimum Standards and Health and Safety at Work Act etc.
  • The Domiciliary care worker must always liaise closely with the Supervisor, reporting any significant or unusual change i.e. accidents, incidents or illness etc.

Compensation and Hours

  • Monday-Friday for Morning/Lunch and Afternoon (Tea) runs: Ā£12.60 per hour.
  • Monday-Thursday Bed (Night) runs: Ā£13.15 per hour.
  • Weekend runs (including Friday bed runs): Ā£14.15 per hour.
  • Plus mileage at 30p per mile.

Qualifications

  • Satisfactory Access NI vetting procedure.
  • NISCC registration.
  • Satisfactory References.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Access to a vehicle for work purposes.
  • 6 months experience in formal care setting.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Care or equivalent.
  • NISCC registered.
  • Up to date Moving and Handling.
  • Up to date Food and Hygiene.
  • 6 months formal experience.

Additional Information

  • Two weeks alternating rota: Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday.
