Working on large-scale steel frame projects from early concept through to construction handover, you will lead all Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) preconstruction activities, ensuring robust technical solutions, programme certainty and cost-effective design strategies. This is a key leadership role requiring close collaboration with clients, consultants, supply chain partners and internal delivery teams to develop coordinated, buildable and sustainable MEP solutions that align with project objectives. You will play a central part in securing new work, driving innovation and adding value throughout the tender and preconstruction phases, helping STRABAG UK maintain its reputation for excellence in complex industrial and logistics construction.

Requirements

  • Contribute reviewing of MEP elements of prequalification documents and tenders.
  • Effective management, capable of controlling MEP elements of projects with tender values of up to £500 Million.
  • Develop, demonstrate, and maintain the highest standards of offering from the MEP bid function in relation to accuracy, risk assessment, predictability of outcome and supply chain selection.
  • Establish MEP bid strategies including supply chain selection, commercial strategies / route to margin, risk, and opportunity.
  • Carry out a full review of the MEP scope of works and undertake technical appraisals identifying any risk or gaps and mitigation measures required and ensuring these are suitably resolved or a strategy established prior to settlements.
  • Produce appraised tender return review to allow commercial selection for the MEP package.
  • Close commercial and design liaison, working alongside and managing the MEP design, estimating and pre‑construction teams, combined with input into the overall management of the project.
  • Create detailed documents to convey MEP method of construction to the client.
  • Communicate MEP intent and requirements with the supply chain, internally within the group and its departments and externally with designers and other stakeholders.
  • Produce and execute MEP value engineering ideas throughout the process.
  • Be conversant with all construction‑related policies and directives from health and safety to CDM.
  • Engage and contribute to project co‑ordination meetings.
  • Contribute to the planning of activities through development of the programme.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the MEP supply chain, in terms of workload, win strategies and business development and feedback.
  • Work in the Pre‑construction phase to develop the Project Execution plan in preparation for handover.
  • Take part in off‑site meetings and site visits as required.
  • Review site utility provisions, equalise any utility quotes & bids, close scope gaps and report on risk and opportunity for the development to develop a Utility solution for the bid.
  • Ensure clarification of utility provision in bid returns.
  • Produce MEP/Utilities builders works strategies for the bid team.
  • Work with the pre‑construction design team to review and develop Breeam, BRUKL and EPC strategies for the tender return, in relationship to the MEP elements of these items.
  • Manage, support and organise subordinate team MEP pre‑construction team members.

Qualifications

  • Recognised industry qualification and formal apprenticeship in recognised trade discipline.
  • Knowledge of Project Procedures.
  • IT literacy – Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and exercise flexibility where necessary.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and construction documents.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and recognition of hazards.
  • Degree / HND/HNC in relevant building services discipline desired but not essential.
