About The Role

To lead and manage all planning and programme control activities across pre‑construction and project delivery phases, ensuring projects are planned, monitored and delivered in accordance with contractual requirements, client expectations and company objectives. The Senior Planner will develop, maintain and manage detailed project programmes, identify and mitigate risks, provide strategic planning support to project teams and senior management, and promote best practice planning standards across the business. The role will support successful project delivery through effective programme management, stakeholder engagement and performance reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Attend and contribute to project start‑up/close/mid meetings.
  • Undertake site visits to review site progress.
  • Review the Employer’s Requirements, Contract Data and Works Information and associated information and highlight any deficiencies/omissions noted.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering, procurement and construction schedules including monitoring and analysis of critical path and project float.
  • Input into assessment of programme risks and programme risk analysis, including development and implementation of mitigation measures.
  • Lead the production of reports and programme narratives to the defined project reporting requirements.
  • Progress monitoring and regular updating of the construction programme, including forecasting of potential problem areas and proposing mitigation measures to the Project Manager.
  • Produce programmes, reports and/or extract filters as required by the project team, including indication of deviation from the baseline programme.
  • Develop and undertake analysis of resource histograms to demonstrate and streamline project prelims, labour, materials and plant requirements as required.
  • Prepare short‑term programmes in conjunction with the project team.
  • Include cost data into the programme and produce cash flow forecasts.
  • Provide advice to the project team of when it is likely that there will be delays to the critical path and the potential impact this will result in.
  • Production of phasing diagrams or presentations to demonstrate strategy and sequence as required.
  • Coordinate designers and other supplier’s works and integrate into the project programme.
  • In conjunction with Commercial and Project teams develop the programme for change events.
  • Monitor productivity to determine trends and to assist in forecasting.
  • Help to develop cost and resource loaded construction programmes.
  • Interfacing with other functional teams including, but not limited to: BIM team, design team, estimation team, commercial team and construction execution.
  • Compliance with the STRA‑PLAN procedures and guidelines.
  • Provide productivity as‑built data accumulated from the works to allow feedback to the Business Development team and availability to the wider Planning team.
  • Encourage sharing of information and best practice and communication between Business Units.
  • Reporting of data and progress to the Planning Manager.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of NEC and JCT contracts.
  • Degree/HND/HNC in Construction / Engineering or appropriate professional qualification.
  • Advanced competence in appropriate Planning software.
  • Broad experience within appropriate construction environment.
  • Active experience of working with a wide range of planning techniques in both tendering and contract delivery.
  • An advanced understanding of the commercial and contractual processes within the planning function.
  • Proven experience developing and managing programmes using Asta Powerproject.

Desirable

  • Major build, infrastructure or Tier 1 contractor experience.
  • Experience in the use of TILOS software.
  • Membership of CIOB or ICE.
  • Experience of managing QSRA.
  • Experience in Project Management.
  • Experience in Risk Management.
  • Experience in Industrial and Logistics Sector.
