About the Role:
This role is a senior engineering leadership position focused on High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) substations. The successful candidate acts as the technical authority for substation design, protection & control, engineering governance, and design assurance while leading multidisciplinary teams and supporting business growth.
Requirements:
- Provide technical leadership for HV/EHV primary and secondary substation engineering.
- Oversee design quality, engineering standards, compliance, and technical assurance reviews.
- Promotes a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and Safety by Design.
- Lead the delivery of projects through FEED, detailed design, construction support, and commissioning.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, protection & control, cables systems, and commissioning disciplines.
- Act as the senior interface with clients, contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Develop engineers through mentoring, competency management, recruitment, and technical coaching.
- Support bids, proposals, business development, and strategic growth initiatives.Drive innovation, and contributing to the successful delivery of major grid, renewable integration, and infrastructure programmes.
Skills & Qualifications:
Required:
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineer or equivalent
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong stakeholder and client management skills.
- Ability to make complex technical decisions and maintain technical quality across projects.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- National Grid project experience.
- Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) authorisation and experience.
- Health & Safety qualifications such as IOSH or NEBOSH.
- Construction and commissioning support experience.
