STRABAG UK is seeking an Environment & Sustainability Manager who will be responsible for leading environmental and sustainability management across the Routeways works on the HARP project. The role will provide strategic environmental leadership, manage environmental risks and opportunities, oversee environmental and sustainability performance, and support the successful delivery of HARP's environmental objectives while maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, regulators and project teams. The position will report to the Environment & Sustainability Lead and will have a team to manage.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide environmental leadership and technical guidance to project teams and subcontractors.
  • Mentor and develop environment & sustainability team members.
  • Ensure employees are aware of their statutory duties and responsibilities and understand the requirements of the Environmental Policies, KPIs, Procedures and Client deliverables of HARP.
  • Manage the beneficial reuse key performance indicator (KPI), promoting circularity initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain Environmental Management System documentation for the project.
  • Identify significant environmental & sustainability impacts and escalate the risk where appropriate.
  • Manage records as necessary to ensure compliance with legislation and contract requirements.
  • Ensure adequate environmental and sustainability training is disseminated and records kept.
  • Manage applications for consents and documents for planning condition discharge.
  • Create strong relationships with the ES Lead, Project management and multiple disciplines.
  • Act as a key liaison with Stakeholders and Regulators, maintaining consents and permits compliance.
  • Lead on incident investigation, ensuring prompt reporting of incidents in line with KPIs.
  • Produce Environmental Management Plans, and other contract specific documentation.
  • Lead on internal Project audits, ensure ongoing ES surveillance and manage external audits.
  • Drive continuous improvement and share knowledge through lessons learnt and best practices.
  • Communicate legislative and compliance requirements to multiple disciplines.
  • Identify and create business cases for environmental efficiencies and opportunities for cost savings through sustainable construction practices and material reuse initiatives.

Required profile:

  • Qualified in Environmental Management or related discipline (or experience equivalent to a degree).
  • Full Driving Licence.
  • Relevant CSCS card.
  • Significant experience in Environmental Management in the construction industry.
  • Experience managing environmental permits, consents and regulatory relationships.
  • A good understanding of the requirements of the ISO14001 standard.
  • Practitioner of ISEP (or similar) - desirable.
  • Experience of managing an Environmental team.
  • ISO14001 Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Experience in major infrastructure or civil engineering projects.
  • Understanding of Ecology Management and Natural England licences.
  • Experience of section 61 consents.
  • Experience of working to AS2080 and ISO50001.
