Environmental Technician in Manchester

We are on the hunt for an Environmental Technician to join the largest critical infrastructure project in the UK. Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will be undertaking environmental monitoring, analysis and equipment maintenance duties on the HARP Project.

What matters to us:

• 3 years environmental management/monitoring experience.
• Graduate/Associate member of IEMA or similar.
• Relevant CSCS card (can be obtained in role).
• Appropriate qualifications in respect to environment and sustainability.
• Driving licence and willing to travel.
• DBS check will be required prior to appointment.

Assess information within normal areas of responsibility; question evidence and findings in order to highlight and communicate issues. Be able to work systematically within clear guidelines/set goals and strive to achieve required results consistently. A credible and assertive individual, who is comfortable presenting and performing under pressure.

Your contribution to our company:

• Work with the wider project team to ensure delivery of the project in accordance with contractual requirements, the Strabag ESMS and associated standards.
• Carrying out environmental sampling and monitoring, including field measurement and physical sampling of surface water, groundwater, private water supplies, soil, dust and waste.
• Submission of samples to laboratories maintaining records and chain of custody.
• Collection, compilation and analysis of environment, sustainability and energy monitoring data, on and off-site in accordance with written procedures.
• Assist with updating monitoring procedures as required.
• Installing, inspecting and maintaining monitoring equipment (for example, noise, vibration and dust monitors) in accordance with the Environmental Monitoring Plan.
• Stock control of monitoring/lab consumables.
• Take responsibility for the calibration of monitoring/lab equipment as advised by Environmental Advisors/Specialists and required.
• Coordinate the delivery of the Environmental Monitoring Plan, ensuring appropriate quality control.
• Support the work of the Sustainability Advisor by collecting data from project teams.
• Support campaigns for improved environmental compliance and recycling.
• Take responsibility for your own health and safety and that of the rest of the wider Strabag project team and any other site workers and visitors.
• Maintain your own level of knowledge and competence in relation to Environmental Management and responsibilities including appropriate qualifications and professional membership and CPD.
• Work to develop technical leadership in specialist area(s) to support the work of the Environmental team as required.
• Support the environment and sustainability team in maintaining the Impacts and Aspects Register, sustainable procurement approach, carbon assessment updates etc.
• Assist in maintaining the management plans relevant to your role (including the Construction Environmental Management Plan) responding to changes in project scope.
• Communicate the requirements of the management plans at supervisor/superintendent/senior level.
• Report any persistent or significant non-compliances to the Environmental Manager.
• Develop best practices and lessons learned bulletins to share with the wider team and wider projects.
• Support the delivery and compliance with all consents and permits required for the project.
• Respond to observations of non-compliances or potential non-compliances or matters which may result in non-compliance, escalating as necessary.
• Assist in the delivery of the agreed communications and training plan.
• Support the response to environmental incidents and the response to other incidents as required.
• Advise the design and construction teams to promote best practice and reduce the risk of environmental incidents, through assistance with the HAZID and RAMS review processes.
• Liaise with stakeholders where required.
