STRABAG UK is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Build Division, supporting the successful delivery of a large scale, high rise build project in the Lincoln area.

What matters to us:

  • Registered with RICS / ICES and working towards Chartership
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline
  • Experience working as a Senior or Quantity Surveyor within the UK construction industry
  • Commercially astute
  • Excellent knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract and Standard Methods of Measurement
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, particularly JCT forms
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with a Design and Build Building Contractor
  • Good communication skills including presentations and ability to negotiate and persuade others
  • Programming techniques, project controls, risk analysis, contract admin, procurement, cost, claims

Your contribution to our company:

  • Support the successful delivery of large scale, high-rise build projects based near Lincoln, managing the commercial aspects of projects from pre‑construction through to final account
  • Provide strategic commercial leadership, manage risk and cost control, and drive the financial success of projects ranging in scale and complexity
  • Work closely with project teams, clients, and supply chain partners to ensure value, quality, and efficiency at every stage

Requirements:

  • Encourage and develop a culture of commercial awareness within the team
  • Ensure the site team adheres to group procedures and governance
  • Manage the successful onboarding of new junior staff members
  • Manage the development of personal plans, establishment of objectives/targets for all direct reports
  • Identify necessary and appropriate training needs for direct reports
  • Motivate and manage the performance of junior staff and provide coaching and mentoring where appropriate
  • Delegate appropriate work to junior staff while maintaining accountability
  • Participate in the Project Kick‑Off meeting and input into and directly influence the production and maintenance of the Project Execution Plan
  • Prepare internal commercial reporting, influence and contribute to monthly project reviews and any other reports which may be required
  • Prepare valuations/applications for payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract
  • Prepare cost reports to the client with contractually compliant supporting documentation
  • Prepare and manage subcontract and material procurement schedules
  • Issue sub‑contractor and consultant appointments in line with the requirements of the programme and procurement schedule
  • Work with the Design Manager and Project Manager on design aspects and provide advice regarding cost impacts and value engineering
  • Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts from requisition preparation through to final accounts
  • Undertake contract administration, including change management, the issuance of contractual notices and communication in accordance with the contract and maintain associated registers
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change
  • Ensure correct site records are maintained
  • Implement a WBS structure to satisfy the client and contract requirements
  • Ensure regular risk and opportunity workshops take place within the project team and influence and input into a real‑time risk and opportunity schedule
  • Prepare, negotiate and agree on change events, extension of time claims, final accounts etc.
  • Measure quantities in accordance with standard methods of measurement as required
  • Ensure appropriate client management is initiated and maintained
  • Identify and advise on insurance‑related issues, including the prompt notification of potential claims and ensuring all insurance‑related contractual requirements of the project are implemented and managed
  • Maximise cash position, include WIP control, cash flow production and improvement plans
  • Monitor and manage the out‑turn cost and value on the project in real time and ensure a detailed forecast is maintained and reported on a monthly basis
  • Input into the production of the margin improvement plan on the project and manage and maintain in real time
  • Ensure timely procurement of PCG, bonds and warranties as required by the contract
  • Manage subcontractor and supplier disputes
  • Assist in client dispute management
  • Assist with work-winning duties as required, including technical writing for PQQ responses
  • Undertake any other work as required by your line manager
